I just finished listening to this week's interview with Mark Hyman, MD on the Him & Her Podcast. For those of you that don't know, I'm currently studying to be an Integrative Health Coach with Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where Dr Hyman is also a visiting faculty member. This podcast episode is a powerful reminder of the importance of comprehensive health support. The episode delved into topics like inflammation, anti-inflammatory diets, chronic disease management, morning and evening routines, and the transformative power of functional medicine. It really is amazing to learn how our dietary choices profoundly impact our health. From my own experience, food truly is medicine. I really liked hearing Dr. Hyman's mention of Function Health. Having experienced it myself and gained invaluable health insights, I can attest to its effectiveness and the benefit in my own health journey. Earlier this year, I was honored to be asked to serve on a panel of health experts. One of the audience members asked the following question: “I know I am supposed to eat more fiber, but can you explain in simple terms why it’s so important?” Wow, what a seriously great question, and one I answer in this week's article, FIVE REASONS YOU SHOULD EAT A FIBER RICH DIET. A new Cleveland Clinic study links artificial sweetener erythritol to a higher risk of blood clots. After consuming erythritol, participants showed a sharp spike in platelet activity, indicating a greater chance of blood clot formation. The findings from this new study echo the research team’s 2023 findings, which showed an association between erythritol consumption and a higher risk of heart attack and stroke. This concerning data suggests it may be time to reevaluate erythritol’s safety as a food additive. Check out my latest Healthline Media piece for more details and expert advice on potential risks and alternatives, especially for those with cardiovascular or blood clotting conditions. https://lnkd.in/e6Headqy Thanks to Thomas M. How's your nutrition discipline and exercise routine going? If you're anything like me, it's been up and down due to loads of travel and too many restaurant meals. So...in my latest podcast episode, Dr. Joey Mattina and I go down the rabbit hole to cover our current exercise, nutrition and supplement strategies and see where we can get optimized. Of note, we dive into the following areas and try to demystify and distill all of the noise we hear in the media, particularly social media: • Resistance training: Why it's crucial for maintaining muscle mass and bone density as we age. He emphasizes the importance of challenging your body with heavier weights to trigger essential hormonal responses and maintain overall health. • Data, data, data: Comprehensive blood tests and scans designed for early detection of health issues. Tests Joey and I have done and want to do. Supplements: Do they matter? How do we know if they're working? • We cover a ton of topics for busy people, regardless of whether you want to get started from a standstill with little knowledge, hope to get back on track, or are pretty optimized and want to level up.
