As we close out #PrideMonth, we’re exploring the role our Employee Resource Groups (ERG) play in building thriving, inclusive communities. Whether facilitating opportunities to learn from each other’s experiences or driving meaningful change, ERGs let our employees take the lead, share their voices and make a real impact on our culture. Learn more about our Pride & Allies ERG from Tyler K., the group’s global co-chair > https://sbdinc.me/45zdKZ8 #ForThoseWhoMakeTheWorld #TogetherWeAreMore

In the journey toward accessible employment, readiness stands as the pivotal second pillar in our comprehensive 4 Pillar Model. This essential step involves more than just a surface-level acknowledgment of the need for change—it's about cultivating a mindset shift, preparing to dismantle long-held beliefs, and fostering a workplace culture that embraces diversity and inclusion. This week, we're delving into the core components that make up the readiness pillar: https://buff.ly/48Iu4aG ---------------------- IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A work team of various ages, races, and genders gather outside in front of a redbrick wall with coffees in hand for a staff photo. A colleague to the far right sits in a wheelchair, to the right another colleague sits on the table. Overlaid is a graphic of three overlapping quarter circles with the words: Readiness - Preparing organizations to be inclusive inside. A checked box icon sits at the bottom right of the graphic. ---------------------- #DisabilityInclusion #AccessibleEmployment #A11Y #ACCESSIBILITY

As an EHS Leader, establishing trust is crucial. It is the first step to creating psychological safety, which is the baseline for a successful safety culture. Three things I personally focus on to establish trust: 1) Being Approachable - Developing a strong rapport with those you support 2) Being Available - Being present and having an open-door policy 3) Actively Listening - Allowing concerns to be fully voiced, acknowledging the concern prior to providing any feedback or potential solutions. Never dismiss a concern as non-valid. Three things Terry Keel, CSM, CSD, ABCP and I focus on for our site: 1) Creating award initiatives for proactive safety - Keep it fun! 2) Establishing measurable safety goals for the entire site - Friendly competition can foster increased engagement 3) Being inclusive - Allowing anyone interested to join the Safety Council This article from American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) by Sharleigh Zavaglia provides a great roadmap for establishing workplace trust through diversity, equity and inclusion.

Great thoughts in this ASSP article. Proactive, affirming and inclusive management creates an environment where occupational safety is never an afterthought, it's what you do to protect those with whom you serve.

In the quest to reduce "serious incidents and fatalities" in the workplace, which approach do you think is more effective: fostering a culture of ‘Fear’ where employees are driven by the fear of consequences, or cultivating a culture of mutual ‘Trust’ where safety is a shared responsibility and employees feel empowered and accountable? In your experience, which approach has led to a safer work environment? Please share your thoughts, insights, and real-life examples. Your experiences could provide valuable lessons for us all.
