Had the privilege of sharing insights alongside brilliant minds like Adrien COHIDON, Ir. Ts. Dr. Vimal Rau A., Maria Wedenby Ahlberg, Allen Ma, and Anna R. on the technology, security and infrastructure implications of autonomous vehicles recently at @SITCE 2024 in Singapore.   And my personal key highlight? Taking a ride in a Level 4 autonomous Robobus on Sentosa Island! 🏝️🚌   As a transport nerd, I was geeking out! 🤓 It's amazing to see Singapore turning sci-fi into reality, addressing real-world challenges like driver shortages and environmental concerns.   Key takeaways from the opening speech by Hong Tat Chee, Minister of Transport Singapore: ·       Singapore's taking a smart, step-by-step approach to AV deployment ·       Focus on autonomous logistics and minibuses (makes total sense!) What's exciting is that AVs aren't just a future prospect – they're here now! In controlled environments with careful design, planning, and infrastructure readiness, many use cases can be implemented today. It's all about creating the right conditions to scale for success.   As we navigate the complexities of urban mobility, AVs are shaping up to be a game-changer. From easing manpower crunches to reducing carbon footprints, the potential is huge - and it's already being realized in pockets around the world. 🚌 Successful completion of the pilot project for automated driving in the Schaffhausen – area for makers 🚌 After around 600 operating days and 8,100 kilometers traveled on Line 13, the Swiss Transit Lab has retired its automated vehicle "Rhyder" into well-deserved rest. With the pilot project, Swiss Transit Lab has proven: Automated driving in public transport works! This makes Schaffhausen's Swiss Transit Lab Line 13 an international model for automated driving.✨ "Schaffhausen – area for makers has a global pioneering achievement and radiance," says Official Chief Representative Economic Promotion Canton of Schaffhausen Christoph Schärrer.💡 Here in Schaffhausen – area for makers, companies have the opportunity to implement innovative application projects in practice. The experiences of Swiss Transit Lab Lines 12 and 13 have paved the way for follow-up projects with automated driving in public transport. 🚀 What does this mean for automated driving? 🛴Introducing MicroVision – our partners’ latest project dedicated to promoting sustainable and safe micromobility🛴: MicroVision, recently added to SAFER’s portfolio, focuses on enhancing safety and sustainability in micromobility. As micromobility and the electrification of small vehicles continue to rise, there is a promising shift towards sustainability. However, the increased usage of e-scooters in urban areas has also raised safety concerns. To tackle these challenges, SAFER’s partners Autoliv and Chalmers University of Technology leveraging cutting-edge image processing technology to develop a camera-based safety system. This system detects the driving status of other micromobilities in real-time using camera images, promptly alerting riders to potential hazards through visual and haptic cues. The successful 26th Car 2 Car Week was held in Helmond, the Netherlands. During the week a one day joint work shop between the project Hi-Drive and C2C-CC was held. This allowed for discussion of the progress of C-ITS and V2X technology which is essential for the sensor fusion, necessary for enabling seamless automated driving. In addition, ongoing work as well as results of operational deployments and pilots projects testing was shared. During the traditional workshop dedicated city aspects, it was discussed how best to optimise use cases for cities, to bring the safety and efficiency benefits to all types of road users in the city environment. Benefits which are already available on many motorways in Europe.
