For all organisations reporting on their GHG emissions, if you are stating compliance with the GHG Protocol Standards, your Scope 2 emissions should be reported under both the location-based and market-based methods. However, only 1 out of 8 of the climate reports we reviewed reported under the market-based method.
Have a read of our GHG Emissions Reporting Brief to find out what dual reporting would look like even for organisations that haven’t entered into any energy-related contractual instruments.
Looking forward to discussing any queries on emissions reporting with you.
Whether you’re reporting your emissions to comply with the mandatory framework or making voluntary disclosures, if you are an organisation operating in New Zealand stating compliance with the GHG Protocol Standards, your Scope 2 emissions from purchased energy should be reported under both the location-based and market-based methods.
