We’re keeping the #EarthDay celebration going in Framingham, MA. The Staples Home Office went green with a pick-your-own-plant table, complete with battery recycling boxes to take them home in (which can then be used to store and transport old batteries to a local Staples for recycling!). Associates then tried their luck on a wheel to win an eco-friendly prize and tested out some of our environmentally-conscious product assortment. 💚 How did you go green this Earth Day? #StaplesRecycles #gogreen #ecofriendly #environment #HappyEarthDay

Happy Earth Day! From all of us at Building Sustainable Connections, we want to share stories from our Member Companies to help inspire you to celebrate #EarthDay2024 with some easy ways to embrace sustainability in your every day: 🌱 Sustainability, energy, and waste audits are a great way to identify opportunities for change in your business operations. Waste audits show where you may have some excess waste product (expired food, unsold merchandise, extra unused material, etc.) that is costing you more money than necessary - and adding to the waste stream. Take it from Bronze 🥉 certified Dakota Adventure Supply! They recently launched an accessory bag made from remnant fabric left over from their Adventure Tote! Energy audits - like those performed by our Gold 🥇 member company, Johnson Environmental, can help identify where your organization is literally losing money out the window! Silver 🥈 certified Americold performs weekly energy walks to make sure there are no condenser leaks or wasted energy zones! 🌱 In addition to thinking of recycling through Silver 🥈 certified Millennium Recycling, look at how you can extend the life of an item by giving it new purpose. Bronze 🥉 certified Terra Shepherd Boutique reuses packaging materials from suppliers to ship orders to customers across the country! And Silver 🥈 certified Augustana University has taken used skis and repurposed them into lounge chairs for students to enjoy on campus in their native prairie garden! 🌱 Community litter cleanups are a great way to take an active role in creating a healthier environment. If you missed Silver 🥈 certified Raven Industries' Big Sioux River cleanup on Saturday, take a page from their sustainability team and organize regular trash walks to clean up your neighborhood throughout the year! 🌱 Throughout the year, shop local! Not only does this help keep your dollars invested in the local economy, it also helps to reduce the emissions required to transport goods. If you are curious where to start, check out our Green Business Directory and look at the incredible Sioux Falls organizations who commit to #EarthDayEveryDay #SiouxFalls #SustainableSiouxFalls #Sustainability #SustainableBusinesses #GreenBusinesses #GreenBusinessDirectory #SiouxFallsSD #BuildingSustainableConnections

🎄 It’s that time of year, when we say goodbye to our Christmas trees! 🎄 A San Francisco tradition will return this January, continuing an over 30-year legacy of holiday tree recycling. The longstanding program turns the holiday pines, spruces and firs into environmentally-friendly mulch and keeps them out of the landfill. Recycling your Christmas tree is easy. Simply place your unadorned tree curbside, next to your blue recycling bin, the night before your regular collection day between Jan. 2 and Jan. 12. Recology will take it away. Each year around this time, due to the efforts of San Francisco residents, the City recycles 500 tons of trees on average. “We never want to see old Christmas trees left out on the sidewalk willy-nilly for extended periods of time where they can become hazards,” said San Francisco Public Works Director Carla Short. “San Francisco’s tree-cycling initiative helps keep our neighborhoods clean and safe by allowing residents to dispose of their old trees properly and put them to good use as mulch that can be used for gardens and farms.” Before putting your tree out for pickup, please remember to remove all tinsel, decorations, nails, plastic bags, stands and lights – anything that was added to the natural tree. If your tree measures more than 6 feet tall, please cut it in half. Trees should not be put into a plastic bag. We are very happy to announce the launch of our first Trash or Treasure Valentine's Day campaign! 💕 Now in its fifth year, the Trash or Treasure program helps reduce the waste that accumulates around seasonal celebrations throughout the year. Thanks to the support of schools, community organizations, and independent businesses across the country, Trash or Treasure has helped to divert hundreds of thousands of Halloween candy wrappers from landfills, enabling thousands of pounds of plastic to be recycled as part of the circular economy. As part of our expanded mission, Trash or Treasure will now help campaign participants achieve the same goal for Valentine’s Day by providing easy-to-assemble mail-back recycling boxes which can be filled with discarded candy wrappers and returned via carbon neutral shipping, provided by shipping partner, UPS. The box contents are processed by Rubicon's recycling partner, g2 revolution, which has developed innovative, Second Life solutions to divert waste from landfills through reuse, recycling, or recovery. Core to the success of Trash or Treasure is the campaign’s education program, which was created in collaboration with the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), Trash or Treasure’s official education partner. Downloadable lesson plans, reading lists, signage, and other collateral are available to help campaign participants rethink what is considered trash and understand its potential value as part of the circular economy. To order a free Trash or Treasure box for your school, independent business, or community organization, visit our program website and follow the prompts. https://okt.to/OBtTIR Read the full press release here: https://okt.to/sGPt1j #sustainability #ZeroWaste #landfilldiversion #recycling #circulareconomy
