True Recruitment Stories 1) A 6’4” unemployed (3 mths.) Swaps Settlements Clerk felt strongly intimidated when I requested him to have a haircut before the interview for a job with Bankers Trust in London in 1992. 2 days later after the interview, he came back and offered me a lunch treat and thanked me for the offer he received from the bank. Was it the haircut? 2) A Head of Department dressed casually when when we first met in Singapore. He was reminded. He attended the interview with a collarless T-shirt and wore a pair of sneakers!! Obviously, he was booted after a brief discussion. He has no respect for his interviewers nor his profession. Presentation skills and first impressions maybe basic requirements but surprisingly some fail to take heed. Be it keeping long finger nails or smelling foul of smoke or dressing inappropriately at interviews, especially within the financial industry. No matter how outstanding they are in their jobs, they have to respect professional ethics. As recruiters, its your job to tell them.
