Time for some Leetcode! Title: The Unsolvable Query Difficulty: Impossible Description: At a MAANG+ adjacent, the hiring managers have come up with a new interview process to ensure only the "best" candidates are hired. They have devised a problem so complex and convoluted that it is rumored to be unsolvable. But fear not, for if you can solve it, you will be guaranteed a job for life (or until the next round of layoffs, whichever comes first). Given an `array arr` of integers and a `function isThisReallyNecessary(arr, k)` that no one understands (not even the author), determine the value of k such that the function returns true. The function is incredibly slow, probably non-deterministic, and the definition is not provided to you. In fact, the function changes every time the problem is attempted. Function Signature: `def find_k(arr: List[int]) -> int:` Input: arr: a list of integers that you may or may not need to use in order to solve the problem. Output: Return the integer `k` that satisfies the unknown condition of the mysterious `function isThisReallyNecessary(arr, k)`, or -1 if such a k cannot be determined within the time limit of the universe. Examples: (Examples are omitted as they would not be helpful in solving this problem, and could possibly just lead to more confusion.) Constraints: The array `arr` may contain any integer between the minimum and maximum representable integer values in your chosen programming language. The value of k is an integer that may or may not exist within the known universe. The time complexity of your solution should ideally be better than O(n!), though the hiring managers are not really sure what this means. Space complexity is of no concern since the problem is already taking up too much space in your mind.

Well, “Software Engineer" to me, as a technical recruiter 🕵️♂️ looking at thousands of profiles and resumes, seems to encapsulate the roles and responsibilities of the other titles listed in the image. 🖥️ I honestly do not know because while "Software Engineer" is undoubtedly a broad designation that can include aspects of development, programming, and the application of engineering principles to software construction, the other titles also lead to this same type of knowledge. 🤔 All in all, in my sourcing quest, I take a look at all these titles 📝 when hiring for a coding role. It’s interesting, though, how ‘Web Developer’ stands out as a bit more specialized. 🌐 PD: I took this image from lazy programmers!

I had a recruiter reach out for a mid-weight Ruby software engineer role. Im flattered that: "..you are a great fit and we are excited to bring you this one off opportunity". Apparently, to be given the grace of 'qualifying for interview' I had to click a link and book 30 minutes in someone's calendar for an 'insights call'. I couldn't help myself, I had to look at the job spec. If I am lucky enough to land the job, I would qualify for 3 benefits: working with the latest software such as the latest Microsoft Office, work with innovative leaders who are happy to share their knowledge with me, and they will listen to my ideas for future direction. The required skills section was 3/4 of a page long. How's that for balance? Recruiting Software Engineers is hard, and it's competitive. You need to be on the top of your game to attract talent. This is lazy, this is boring, this is desperate. Honestly, this is frustrating. There are so many wonderful recruiters out there that are given such a bad name by practices like this. Thankfully, in recent times I have noticed this is a rare occurrence and the incredible recruiters are now far outshining the bad ones.
