I'm a strong believer that the future of urban planning and development will be transformed by AI and digital twin technologies. As cities face increasing demands for more resilient, sustainable infrastructure, many governments struggle with limited time and resources to meet these challenges. Digital twins—virtual replicas of cities—offer a powerful tool to simulate and manage urban environments. By investing in these technologies, cities can improve planning, prepare for climate impacts, and respond to emergencies more effectively. Excited to see this future, where digital transformation empowers cities to be more responsive, resilient, and regenerative.
After months of dedicated work, I’m excited to share that our efforts are taking shape! Led by Dalberg Catalyst, we’re developing #OpenTwin- an open-source, decentralized, AI-native digital twin platform advancing the Internet of Cities. OpenTwin seeks to redefine how cities use data, empowering city leaders, residents, and stakeholders to engage in data-driven, collaborative urban planning to build resilient, inclusive communities. Our pilot in #Santiago is a crucial milestone within the global Adaptive Cities initiative—a project I’m honored to participate in. Adaptive Cities was born from visionary conversations at The Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center and further developed through our involvement in The Brookings Institution The Rockefeller Foundation 17 Rooms process in 2023. I’m proud to work alongside an incredible team on this journey: Robert Kirkpatrick, Kari Aina Eik, William Hoffman, San Rahi Jordan Fabyanske, Harvey Rubin, PhD, MD, Saleem H. Ali, Laura Lee, Roberto Moris, and Patricia Andrea Pastén Valdés.
