Turkish budget carrier Pegasus Airlines has announced it intends to retain its Boeing 737 fleet as it looks to meet growing demand for its services. The announcement marks a sudden about-turn for the carrier which had previously announced that it would become an all-Airbus operator by the end of 2025. The airline currently has 12 Boeing 737-800s in its fleet with an average age of 9.5 years. The carrier also operates 95 Airbus A320 family aircraft, including seven A320-200s, 46 A320neos, and 42 A321neos. The company also has a further 67 A321neos on order from Airbus. “We were heading to a single-type fleet,” Chief Executive Officer Guliz Ozturk said. “However, with this growth and with this size, we made our internal analysis and feasibility and decided to keep nine Boeing aircraft. In terms of cost, in terms of complication, it’s manageable.” Read more at: https://lnkd.in/dMc3gxtK #AviationTalk #aviationnews #avgeek #aviation #aviationindustry #aviationdaily

Could the aviation world finally see new competitors to break the Airbus-Boeing stranglehold? At the opening of Aviation Future Week, Flydubai’s CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith called for a third or fourth aircraft manufacturer to enter the market, pointing out the heavy reliance on Airbus and Boeing as a barrier to growth for airlines. Al Ghaith argued that increased competition would drive innovation and reduce the bottleneck currently facing airlines, especially with ongoing delays from Boeing and Airbus. Other airline executives shared similar sentiments, highlighting the potential for Chinese manufacturer Comac to rise as a competitor. However, Air Arabia’s Tony Whitby cautioned that Comac’s planes are still in their early stages, needing to prove their operational efficiency outside China before becoming viable alternatives. Qatar Airways has engaged with both Boeing Co (NYSE:BA, ETR:BCO) and Airbus Group (EPA:AIR) over a hefty order of between 100 and 150 wide-body jets. This is set to be for models of Airbus’ A350 or Boeing’s 777X models, according to Bloomberg-cited sources. Demand for newer wide-body aircraft models has soared in recent years, with a resurgence in travel since the pandemic having fuelled this further. However, ongoing supply chain issues have led to lengthy delays being faced on orders from both Boeing and Airbus. Requests were submitted to each for the order in a bid “to create some competition between both suppliers” as a result, Qatar chief executive Badr Mohammed Al Meer told CNBC on Thursday. “We are affected when our aircraft are not being delivered on time,” he said. “I know Airbus and Boeing have certain problems. We have full trust in both organisations and they’re strong enough to... More at #Proactive #ProactiveInvestors http://ow.ly/h86O105m6xL

According to Airbus, about 23% of the in-service fleet in Africa for passenger aircraft above 100 seats comprises new-generation aircraft. This includes the Airbus A220, A330neo, Embraer E2, Boeing 737 MAX, and Boeing 787. Meanwhile, the global average for 2022 stood at 25%. However, it is essential to note that Africa has a relatively smaller fleet than other continents, with a large percentage belonging to Ethiopian Airlines. Joep Ellers said That statement is a wake call to the aviation sector in Africa. we need to build up infrastructure and capacity to accommodate current and new generation of fleets and reach out to more destinations inside and outside Africa.🛬🛫✈️
