MedTech is on the move! In Q2 2024, MedTech VC investment stayed strong at $3.3 billion, just slightly down from $3.5 billion in Q1. The trend is looking up for the year, with a forecasted 20% increase in MedTech VC investment compared to 2023! This marks the second consecutive quarter of increased deal activity compared to the previous year. With the first half of 2024 showing a potential 20% increase over 2023, it's clear the market is on a positive trend. * Top Deals: INSIGHTEC $150M late-stage round and BillionToOne’s $130M with notable funding also going to Kardium Inc., Karius, DELFI Diagnostics each securing over $100M. * Active Investors: European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), SOSV, Alumni Ventures, and Arboretum Ventures led with three deals each. Investment Focus: Cardiovascular ($539.4M), diagnostics ($403.2M), and surgical implants ($287.1M) saw significant funding. On the exit front, Tempus AI went public in June, raising over $400M. Though trading lower than its 2022 valuation, this IPO could influence future investor attitudes towards unprofitable companies going public. Other exits included BELKIN Vision, Attune Medical, C2i Genomics, and Blackrock Neurotech’s surprising acquisition by crypto firm Tether.io. In the private equity space, while activity is slightly below last year’s levels, there were 28 buyouts and 19 growth deals, including Peak Rock Capital’s $787.5M buyout of STERIS dental subsidiary Hu-Friedy France and Edwards Lifesciences’ $100.4M acquisition of JenaValve Technology, Inc.
