The medical community should partner with state government to implement the "responsible health-care governance" that Ms. Rubin suggests. "Democratic governors can do plenty: stockpile vaccines and abortion medication, offer medical school students from red states a transfer to their schools, loosen rules for telemedicine, ease requirements to license doctors accredited elsewhere, reiterate vaccine requirements for schoolchildren (and fund free vaccine programs for vulnerable communities), expand their own health departments and pool resources to fund medical research. In short, they can develop an alternative model of responsible health-care governance."

The U.S. Supreme Court is set to review a crucial lawsuit that will impact the coverage of preventive services by group health plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This decision, expected by July, follows arguments starting this spring. At the center of the case is Texas-based employer Braidwood Management, which contended that the ACA's provision for preventive services is unconstitutional. Initially, the company objected to covering pre-exposure prophylaxis drugs for HIV, citing infringement on its rights under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals grappled with this issue, ultimately ruling that the coverage mandated by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) is unconstitutional due to the task force's lack of elected or politically accountable status. However, the court did overturn a nationwide injunction, requiring plans to cover preventive services with cost-sharing until a final decision is reached. Should the preventive services provision be removed, services like disease screenings, mental health appointments, and specific prescription drugs may lose coverage. I AM CONFUSED. I do not usually make posts concerning politics or religion. This post is neither. It's simply pointing out inconsistencies and possible hypocrisy. The graphic is Kamala on the covid shot. If I remember correctly, she also tried to make it mandatory to take the covid vaccines. Here's a statement ( among many) concerning her view on abortion and Healthcare in general. "But I will repeat what I know you all know: The President and I are unequivocal in our support of Roe v. Wade and the constitutionality of Roe v. Wade, and the right of women to make decisions for themselves with whomever they choose — about their own bodies. And, needless to say, the right of women to make decisions about their own bodies is not negotiable. The right of women to make decisions about their own bodies is their decision; it is their body. " So, am I reading this incorrectly? Am I misinterpreting these statements? What I do know is how she , and her party, has been consistent with both of these statements and stances. In her own words stated above "they choose — about their own bodies. And, needless to say, the right of women to make decisions about their own bodies is not negotiable." And don't tell me " well that's different!". It may be a different situation, it may be that taking the covid vaccine is to help protect others, but, if making decisions about our own bodies is " non negotiable " then it is non negotiable. How can one even make any kind of educational argument or debate proving otherwise? #mybodymychoice #mandatoryvaccination #hypocrisy #kamalaharris

Who pays for this exercise of “health freedom”? When vaccines are mandatory, the government compensates individuals harmed from vaccination; it’s a small number. But who pays for medical care of people hospitalized with a preventable infectious disease, and for long term consequences? The government and insurance companies should refuse coverage for illness that results from a voluntary decision to forego vaccination (people too young or medically unable to get vaccinated, or who became sick despite vaccination, would have coverage of course). I’d like to see the vaccine sceptic organizations and individuals personally accept the financial consequences of their decisions. Ideally this would extend to tort liability — vaccination protects other citizens as well as the individual. If driving recklessly is a tort, medical recklessness is, too. Were my child to be born with preventable birth defects or suffer from preventable illness, it’s good to have the names of organizations responsible for those harms. https://lnkd.in/eDNUg8Bq

By now, most of us are affected directly or indirectly by the sweeping freeze of US foreign aid across the globe. As we deal with the anxiety, discomfort, and unimaginable effect this is going to have on us at a personal level and on the healthcare systems, especially in the global south, this should serve as a wake-up call to all of us. How can our healthcare systems be immune to external political policy changes? Is job security a myth? #USAID, #Aidfreeze.
Latest on PEPFAR: "The Trump administration on Tuesday issued a waiver for lifesaving medicines and medical services, offering a reprieve for a worldwide H.I.V. treatment program that was halted last week." During the June 27, 2024, presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, both candidates made several false or misleading statements, which were fact-checked by various organizations. Donald Trump's False Claims: 1. Immigration: Trump claimed Biden allowed millions of people from prisons, jails, and mental institutions to enter the U.S. This was rated "Pants on Fire" false. 2. Abortion: Trump stated that Democrats support abortion even after birth, which is false. 3. Economy: Trump claimed he handed Biden a country with "essentially no inflation," rated mostly false. He also exaggerated food price increases, claiming they had quadrupled, which was also false. Joe Biden's False Claims: 1. Immigration: Biden claimed his policies reduced illegal border crossings by 40%, rated mostly true but with caveats. 2. Health Care: Biden mentioned that prescription drug prices, specifically insulin, were reduced to $15, but he later corrected this to $35. 3. Union Endorsements: Biden claimed the Border Patrol endorsed his position, rated half true, as the union endorsed a bipartisan bill he supported, not him personally. Summary: Donald Trump: 3 significant false claims during the debate. Joe Biden: 3 significant false claims during the debate.
