Each survivor of a sexual crime responds uniquely; there is no uniform reaction. Expecting all survivors to conform to a particular standard can result in revictimization, especially when working with professionals. Being revictimized when reporting an assault can be damaging to the survivor. That’s why we created our Duty Trumps Doubt program. Our goal is to change perspectives through our trauma-informed video and survivor-led presentations specifically designed to help law enforcement, medical personnel, legal professionals and society have a better understanding of the devastating effects sexual crimes have on victims. Our 30–90-minute presentation will cover: 💙 Firsthand survivor stories & experiences 💙 Awareness of the trauma a victim has experienced 💙 Techniques on ways to approach and speak to a victim 💙 The diversity of circumstances and situations in which these crimes occur 💙 The importance of words, body language, and empathy when addressing a victim If you work with survivors, we encourage you to apply for our in-person or online presentation to help you and your coworkers better support victims. #janedoenomore #johndoenomore #dutytrumpsdoubt #revictimization #survivorstrong #believevictims #sexualassault #sexualassaultawareness #sexualassaultprevention #healing #policeofficers #detectives #investigators #emts #nurses #lawyers #paralegals #bodylanguage #endrapeculture

Children in prisons Despite the passage of nearly 90 years, there is only one functional remand home in Sindh, highlighting the failure of the state in protecting children. There are 385 juvenile offenders (of these, 106 are under the age of 16, whereas 100 are under the age of 18) languishing in the province’s prisons, as per the latest data released by the Sindh Prisons and Corrections Service in 2023. Offenders Can Change: A Pillar of Probation and Aftercare Services In the department of Probation and Aftercare Services, we hold a deep belief in the potential for change within every individual. The term "offenders" often carries a heavy stigma, but at the core of our work is the understanding that people are more than their past mistakes. Through dedicated guidance, support, and opportunities for rehabilitation, we witness transformations every day. Offenders can change—given the right environment and resources, they can reintegrate into society as responsible, law-abiding citizens. It's not just about managing risks, but about fostering hope and building a safer community for everyone. By empowering individuals to make positive choices, we help break the cycle of crime and pave the way for a brighter future. #Rehabilitation #CommunitySafety #ProbationServices #AftercareSupport #ChangeIsPossible

This is very distressing viewing. Complex participants require trauma-informed, clinically experienced carers. Not ex-security guards. Identifying dysregulation, implementing positive behaviour support and de-escal strategies re; disability and psychosocial disability is not the same skillset as taught in security courses…at all. #NDIS #SIL #abuse #neglect #restrictivepractice

Fmr. Police & Crime Commissioner, Board Member, College of Policing, and Chair, Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU). Back in business world. I too, have a dream 🌍
Bedfordshire Police has continued to improve under my watch as Police and Crime Commissioner, so if it's not broken, why break it? ✅ More funding allocated to support victims of crime ✅ 10,000 MORE victims of crime supported between 2021/22 and 2022/23 ✅ First force to partner with Amazon Web Services to deliver suite of innovative technologies to improve efficiency of policing and public contact. ✅ Drove national agenda in dealing with the amount of hours police officers spent on non-police jobs. ✅ Lobbied Department of Education to stop local authorities charging schools for the service of education welfare/school attendance officers ✅ Mainstreamed the role of Mental Health nurses in Force Control Room and doubled mental health street triage team. ✅ Funded provision of external counselling for police officers and staff as part of effort to improve workforce retention. The plan to make our police force better, and our area safer is working. We cannot afford to put this at risk, as there more work to do. On Thurs 2 May vote to re-elect Festus AKINBUSOYE as Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner. If it ain't broken, why break it? www.fest4bedspcc.co.uk #Fest4BedsPCC

Wrapped up a week spent with the offender management section of Avon and Somerset Police, as part of my Winston Churchill Trust (Australia) Fellowship to study UK approaches to multi-agency offender management and rehabilitation. In Bristol I learned more about the UK-wide Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) for information sharing about high-risk offenders. I also learned how in Avon and Somerset, the Integrated Offender Management (#IOM) methodology is applied to high-harm, #domesticviolence and sexual offenders in addition to the nationally mandated acquisitive crime cohort. It was an important reminder that while #rehabilitation is crucial to reducing #crime, #recidivism and #incarceration, there is also enormous responsibility placed upon #police and #probation services to protect #publicsafety. The UK IOM model ensures treatment of an individual’s risk/needs giving them the best chance at #desistance, balanced with police-led supervision to manage risk, deter re-offending, and detect it early if relapse occurs. #policing #churchillfellowship

Survivors are all individuals! They experience trauma and emotions differently. There is no one-size-fits-all reaction to surviving a sexual crime. First responders mustn't judge and make a decision based on the victim’s reaction. Our Duty Trumps Doubt program was created to change perspectives through our trauma-informed video and survivor-led presentations specifically designed to help law enforcement, medical personnel, legal professionals and society have a better understanding of the devastating effects sexual crimes have on victims. We urge law enforcement to be understanding and supportive when taking survivors' statements and to avoid making quick judgments based on the victim's emotional state. Being revictimized during the investigation can lead to more harmful trauma than the attack itself. This presentation covers: 💙 Firsthand survivor stories & experiences 💙 Awareness of the trauma a victim has experienced 💙 Techniques on ways to approach and speak to a victim 💙 The diversity of circumstances and situations in which these crimes occur 💙 The importance of words, body language, and empathy when addressing a victim Every victim should be treated with dignity and respect. Many incarcerated workers are forced to do incredibly dangerous jobs—from fighting wildfires to removing lead paint—and yet they are explicitly excluded from many of the workplace safety, labor, anti-discrimination laws and benefits that protect other U.S. workers. This #LaborDay and beyond, the fight for workers' rights must include incarcerated workers. Take action now to demand an end to labor exploitation behind bars: https://lnkd.in/er4Bd4NJ
