NOT ASKING FOR MONEY, just sharing an interesting thought. Cool prizes don’t motivate people to share your brand/idea/cause or whatever else you are trying to promote. My football club, the Judean Rebels, is made up of multiple tackle and flag teams with hundreds of players and former players. I made an offer to the team captains: Whichever team raises the most money for our go-fund-me would get a customized pair of Air Force Ones. The mock-up looked sweet. The team captains were pretty into it. I thought it would be a home run. But then we ran into our first major problem: We couldn't convince any of the players to commit to raising anything. And the captains gave up. The result? 24 donations reaching about $1,500. So early this year my friend Daniel Freishtat reached out to me and asked me if I wanted to run a peer-to-peer fundraiser using CauseMatch. I told him I know everything about peer-to-peer, and believe me, it’s not for us. But we met anyway, and within a few minutes, we uncovered 5 different huge mistakes I had made. And what we could have done. So I took them up on it. And we’ll see if we can beat that $1,500 raised. The good news continues! It's been 3 months since we started our 20k challenge, so here's our check-in🚶♀️ We've done a total of 7,884km (and counting) between the 14 of us. We're now over 39% the way to our target! This distance is approximately the journey from California to Bermuda and we're almost 1/2 the way from Bermuda to Athens. Once we reach Athens we'll head to Guernsey and all around the UK and Ireland. If you haven't seen already, we are doing a sponsorship of 50p per km in addition to 20% of our profits for the year. That's over £10k in grants for charities, with 5 random customers who are in the prize draw receiving £2,000 each! We are asking our customers to follow our progress if they want to be in the draw. This can be liking one of our 20k posts on Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram (like this one) or leaving a comment to cheer us on. Special Olympics Indiana's largest single-day fundraiser offers a unique opportunity for your team of up to 15 people to compete against others to determine who will be the fastest to pull the 82-ton aircraft down a 12-foot track. The fastest team in each division will receive an award. The Plane Pull Challenge also features a festival-like atmosphere. The Indianapolis International Airport postal hub will be transformed with live music, food, souvenirs, games, and other activities throughout the day. THIS EVENT IS FREE TO ATTEND! 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀... There isn't a perfect organisation, nor a perfect human being! So no judgement here, we're all doing our best. Sometimes the best of intentions aren't the best decision, however. I've experienced occasions when organisations recruiting senior fundraisers have been tempted to want to gloss over the fine details in favour of a world class brand, big numbers, the right salary...hoping that these alone will quickly attract a fundraiser who will deliver great things for the organisation and stay for many years. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝘅𝘆𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗼𝗻. Fundraisers can only be successful in an organisation which owns its skeletons. Skeletons get left in the cupboard, quietly. Problems become endemic, never fixed. Fundraising stalls. Turnover is high amongst staff. So many fingers pointing in opposing directions in terms of reasons and responsibility. Nothing really moves forward. So when I'm working with an organisation to recruit a senior fundraiser, we do a LOT of talking first. And sometimes it means that we don't end up working together. 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆, 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻: 𝗔 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼n. 𝗔 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆. Skeletons in themselves are not a deal breaker. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜'𝗺 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗹𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗽𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲. It's a readiness to own the skeletons, and to say what is being done about them. These organisations are such a delight to make a great skill match for. And in the words of a recent Fundraising Director appointee this week on the willingness to own difficulties and say what steps have been taken so far.... "𝗜𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀." This appointment is really exciting because positioned in this way it's going to bring in significant income for this organisation. I don't believe they could have attracted this calibre of fundraiser without such candour. One of the most important moments in a charity auction is right at the very start! 🎤 As an auctioneer, my top priority is to get everyone’s attention before the bidding begins, especially in long rooms where guests can easily be distracted by conversations or the distance from the stage. 📢 Sometimes, you’ve got to get creative to make sure everyone’s focused. I’m not afraid to do whatever it takes to grab attention—even if it means standing on a chair in the middle of the room with a wireless mic! Why? A little 'inside baseball' for how a Rally North America event works. 80+ cars line up in a smallish town (think Erie, PA or Knoxville, TN) on a sunny weekday morning - come to think of it, I've never been on a starting grid where it was raining - listen to a rallying introduction from our organizers and that town's leadership, and then get in our cars, waiting for the coveted Clue Card for the day and the green flag. Local news crews recording as we take off, one by one. Pictured is one of those Clue Cards - this from our 2016 Big Sky Rally which ran from Billings, MT to Portland, OR. As you can see, each checkpoint is described with just a clue and an image. We have to figure out what it is, where it is, and how to get there more quickly than the other 79 cars' occupants. While respecting traffic laws, mind you; a ticket is an instant DQ. Our place in the starting grid is dictated by how much money we raise for the charity that year. In 2012, I secured pole position with approximately $3500 raised. By now, pole position requires more than $20,000 in donations. We are that serious about the cause. I'm usually good now for about $8,000 - though I'm behind in my efforts so far this year. Please help me out by hitting Like and, if you think the cause worthy, repost to your networks.
