Senior Construction Project Manager for multimillion highway projects in Central and Southwest Texas
Although achieving zero fatalities on roads is yet to be accomplished, we are pushing to get there. It is crucial to remember that every day, ten valuable lives are lost on Texas roads. Nevertheless, we can take steps to tackle this issue. The Texas Transportation Commission has set an objective to end fatalities by 2050 and lessen fatal crashes by 50% by 2035. Certainly! Texting while driving is extremely dangerous and can lead to fatal accidents. Please refrain from texting when behind the wheel and slow down in work zones to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you. #txdot #highwayconstruction #constructioncareers #constructionjobs #civilengineeringjobs #civilengineers #civilengineering #civilengineer #asce #pmp #ingenieriacivil #ingenierosciviles #roadworks #roadsafety #safetyfirst #ibero

💭Here is a question we were asked about our #NULCA certified Subsurface Utility Locating Course on Facebook! ❓ : "𝘐𝘧 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘦𝘴? 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘥𝘰 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘪𝘵?" Each employer will have their own reasons. According to the Common Ground Alliance (CGA), 2020 White Paper (Report linked below), Page 7, the third and fourth leading challenges facing the locating industry are "high employee turnover” and “lack of training,” respectively. Referring to page 9, “Key Takeaway #3, Retaining an experienced workforce...” states, “One way to give technicians more experience and draw them more deeply into the profession is by improving the frequency of ongoing technician training...While 93% of technicians reported receiving training prior to going into the field, 94% said that more training would improve the accuracy and timeliness of locates. Of the technicians surveyed, 19% reported never completing ongoing training, and 10% received training less than once a year.” Coupling the lack of training for a locator as a career [with education and bona fide certifications] with low wages, there is more than a 50% turnover in the industry. It is not a leap to see that shortsighted employers are holding their employees in a captive position. There is a high demand for skilled and qualified professionals in this field as infrastructure continues to increase. Education, training, and certifications cost employers time and money, but ultimately, they may lead to better job prospects for employees in the SUE and SUM markets. We will be offering additional classes on the ASCE 75-22 and 38-22 standards, drone mapping, GIS, and other geospatial management information in the near future. The NULCA certificate is an accreditation to a curriculum approved by the NSF and cannot be taught in a day. Lux Subterra classes are taught from a 250-page published textbook [ISBN# 979-8360890980] authored by the instructors (Jeff Ambrose Mitchell & David Woolley, PLS). We are connected to a community college that will issue an additional college certification for those who attend the classes on campus. 🌟 This is why we say, "If you are not NULCA certified, you are not certified" - it is a fact. 🔗 Link to the 2020 White Paper: https://lnkd.in/gPFYDVN9 🔗 Link to our course: www.locatoreducation.com 🔗 Link to our one-call locating and subsurface utility locating book: https://a.co/d/fLs5Bsl #sue #utilitylocating #undergroundutilities #gpr #nulca #utilities #locatoreducation #locator

Crews Safely Complete Construction, Energization of 350 More Miles of Underground Powerlines in 2023 As of this week, PG&E has constructed and energized more than 600 miles of underground powerlines since its ambitious 10,000-Mile Undergrounding program started in mid-2021. And the 350 miles completed in 2023 represents the most ever in a single year by PG&E and nearly twice as many miles as were completed in 2022. “Our customers in high fire-risk locations where we have undergrounded powerlines not only benefit from wildfire mitigation but also improved reliability at the lowest cost over the asset lifecycle,” said Peter Kenny, PG&E’s senior vice president of Major Infrastructure Delivery, which includes the 10,000-mile Undergrounding program. “That progress will continue in the years ahead.” From $4 million per mile when the program first started, PG&E targeted cost reductions to $3.3 million per mile by this year. In fact, the unit cost has now fallen below $3 million per mile. Eliminating risk with layers of protection Undergrounding eliminates nearly 98% of the risk of wildfire ignition from electrical equipment. And it’s one of many layers of wildfire protection from PG&E, ranging from 600-plus weather stations and high-def cameras with AI capability for early fire detection to safety shutoff programs that prevent ignitions that could lead to catastrophic wildfires. The undergrounding program was launched in June 2021 by PG&E CEO Patti Poppe. PG&E and contract crews completed 73 miles that year, 180 miles in 2022 and 350 miles this year. For the full story, visit: https://lnkd.in/gcy2wc4X Go to www.pge.com/undergrounding to see PG&E’s progress and learn more about this crucial safety program.

The Importance of the Work Permit in Excavations. Excavation work can be hazardous. The permit process helps ensure that proper safety measures are in place, reducing the risk of accidents like falling into excavation sites, getting captured by soil, explosions, exposure to harmful airborne substances, and mishappening due to failure of support systems #Case #Study Gas line that caused fatal Sun Prairie explosion not properly marked before drilling began. A gas line was punctured by workers laying fiber optic cable lines for Verizon Wireless a company hired to identify utility lines marked a spot 7,5 mt away from where the actual gas line was. Contractors failed to properly mark a natural gas line before construction workers began drilling near it, ultimately causing an explosion that destroyed a city block of Sun Prairie and claimed a firefighter's life. #fire #explosion #gas #line #naturalgas #accident #safety #workpermit #safetymanagementsystem #SMS #worker #construction #contractors #riskassessment #riskmanagement #pressure
