Baby Loss Awareness Week starts today 💜 Barcan+Kirby is proud to support this initiative, which aims to help people understand the impact of baby loss so that no one feels alone. Unfortunately, sometimes babies are lost due to medical negligence. Our specialist team works hard to secure compensation to help families fund counselling and bereavement support or to go towards funeral costs. In this case study, we share the story of Charlotte Tracy's client. 📢 This was too important to me to not post it on LinkedIn. The scorching 110F/43C temperatures in Arizona have been relentless this summer, and therein lies an ominous danger: children left in hot cars. In my years in healthcare, I've seen the devastating impact of such preventable tragedies. I’ve also wondered, how could that happen?  It’s not as simple as you think. Researchers have found that deviations from a routine increase the likelihood of a parent (or grandparent!) forgetting about a child in a vehicle. You can take these simple steps to prevent such tragedies: ↳ Always keep your car locked even if you don't have children. ↳ Keep your keys out of children's reach. ↳ Teach children how to honk the horn if they are trapped. ↳ Place an essential item that you won’t forget such as your purse, wallet, or phone in the back seat with the child. ↳ If a child is missing, immediately check the inside and trunk of all cars in the area first. ↳ If you see a child alone in a car, ensure they are okay and call 911 if any concern. P.S. Many states’ Good Samaritan laws protect you if you need to break a window to save a child! Are there other ideas that people have? #ChildSafety #PreventHotCarDeaths

The TEARS Kennel and Cattery has had to close its doors on any new intakes as adoptions are not keeping pace with the rising number of homeless pets. The ONLY way to reverse this devastating trend is through mass sterilization. The cost to operate the TEARS Veterinary Hospital, three Mobile Clinics, and the Kennel and Cattery exceed the monthly income that TEARS receives through donations from individuals and Trusts and Foundations. Corporate donations are almost non-existent. The most critical support you can offer is to become a donor to TEARS and the life-saving work that we do. For those who can, we encourage adopting a shelter pet as not only do they have lots of love to give, but it means pet adopters are saving two animals because space becomes available for another deserving and needy pet. Donations to TEARS are tax deductible, with donors receiving a Section 18A tax receipt. https://lnkd.in/dbuu3F-W

Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) Councils bring together leaders in our community to act as a voice for families and children to make sure their needs are met. By involving leaders from social work, education, government agencies, health care, community resources such as food pantries, business and nonprofits, PCA Councils are able to hear from every viewpoint in a community to better protect children and set communities up for success. Whether it is making connections between resources, working together to develop solutions or creating events that highlight the work the community is doing to prevent child abuse, PCA Council members are helping to create a safer and brighter future for families.
