Lawrence Group team developed the 2022 Vlasis Park Master Plan which included community engagement to help identify improvement priorities. Phase I of the plan addressed the challenge of managing the site’s steep topography by integrating a playground with multiple activity zones and incorporating staircase and slope play to harmonize with the existing terrain. Additional enhancements in the plan include pickleball courts, gardens, and a stage with hillside amphitheater-style seating to enhance the park's functionality and accessibility. We’re honored to play a part in shaping Ballwin's community asset and look forward to seeing it thrive in the years to come. Congratulations to this year's Linda Milbourne Fellowship winner, Scout Kerensky-Coodley who worked on this incredible graduate fellowship project! This landscape architecture project was on the Fort Jay Meadow on Governor's Island in New York. We are very impressed with the work she did to complete this incredible report! We wish her well in her future landscape architecture endeavors. PROJECT GOALS: Public Experience: Welcome visitors to have an immersive experience exploring a natural meadow, with opportunities for public programming and engagement. Invasive Plant Mitigation: Remove the invasive plants in the area, and replace with native grasses and flowers that provide high quality habitat for birds and pollinators. Low Maintenance: Improve site conditions to have a landscape with lower long-term management costs, inputs and requirements than a traditional lawn. Habitat Replenishment: Increase the footprint of important meadow and grassland habitat in New York City, providing high quality wildlife refuge. Climate Resilient: Design a landscape that tolerates drought and reduces stormwater runoff, all while sequestering more carbon than a traditional lawn. Will the buildings we construct today last only 50–60 years before history repeats itself? Are we truly learning from the past, or just making way for the next wave of demolition? Passing by Robin Hood Gardens, I couldn’t help but reflect on the changes over the past few years. Completed in 1972, this once iconic estate stood for 50 years before being replaced by a new development, one that (hopefully) meets all modern health, safety, and living standards. Many of my connections and friends will know the history of Robin Hood Gardens far better than I do, but I’ll be here to see its future. Right now, you can witness the demolition of the eastern building. Through the exposed walls, you get a glimpse into people’s lives, each flat once a warm home, each room telling it's story. Walls painted in different colours, children's bedrooms still decorated with fairies… reminders of lives once lived here. I welcome any thoughts on this cycle of urban development ?

Approximately 11.5 feet tall (3.5 meters). That's how tall all of LA's #zoning text would be if you stacked up the pages. That's 13,771 pages including the zoning code, plus all the modifying Specific Plans, Community Design Overlays, Historic Preservation Overlay Zones (HPOZ), Redevelopment Plans, and Streetscape Plans. UrbanForm has processed all of this, so you can access all of it from one interactive map website. Without hunting and pecking through the government websites to find, and then read, all of those documents yourself. #technologyforbetterbuildingsandcities

#BenefitsOfRootSpace – 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 Patten Square is one of Chattanooga’s most historical streets, which over the years has been home to: • The site where the first Coca-Cola was bottled in 1899 • the Old Market Square, the city’s first farmer’s market • The old long-gone City Hall • A war memorial It’s safe to say Patten Square has seen its fair share of changes. Now, in collaboration with WMWA Landscape Architects and Asa Engineering & Consulting, Inc., it’s been given a new lease on life – including a new look and new name. Giving a nod to its rich history, these oak trees were placed in a grid that mimics the columns and canopy of the original market buildings. Along with the 15 oaks there are 24 other trees, all supported by RootSpace to ensure their long-term growth. While GreenBlue Urban doesn’t have as long a history as Patten Square, we did develop the world’s first modular soil cell system. The first trees planted in our soil cells are now mature, large canopy trees. Our track record and research has stood the test of time and will help trees grow for generations to come. Earlier this week I visited a prayer. The Riverwalk. I am with both interest and frustration. Where's evidence of the investment? The lawful horticulture styling? I dislike the design given to the public via media. But am hopeful for the health of the land and the sea. I noticed the Haskell banner. Are you the winner? So, I went to the YWCA later. The steam room and swimming pool are part of healthing practices. Guess who? I ran right into Haskell, the construction company. Right next door. Took up a new office in town. How to feel? Excited and pleased. The way I see it is that the person who decided to repair the Riverwalk appropriately can occupy my building. The Riverwalk Tilt has been an amazing fraud, and I am upset. I couldn't receive a more astounded upwelling of emotion when I knew that the earth was landed and the river would take it. Furtherance, The BayWalk is evident fraud. Notice anything missing? Where's the stroll from Symphony Orchestra to the yoga park? Anyone else notice anything? I like Haskell and want to like them and like them there, right along the St. John's River amidst the labors. The hope is for appropriate style and architectural design for the healed Riverwalk and BayWalk areas. Do me this service. I really, really like the newer architecture design thought: stairs and concrete with preservation of the estate markers and accentuation of the existing horticultural refinement. The revised designed features the quote: "Community is engaging with your people. Permanent." Normans Statue 37.38. #Normandy #BayWalk #Haskell #HeritageTourism

What if cities stopped spending so much time and resources enforcing zoning, and instead focused their energy on PLACEMAKING!? Rather than segregating land uses by type, what if we applied standards around form and function... in other words, is it beautiful and does it provide community benefit!? Imagine what type of communities we could create! #design #planning #zoning #development #housing #housingcrisis #housingforall #mixeduse

This story is for the Birds! Multifamily buildings can be stunning with sleek designs and shiny glass, but those reflective windows pose a real danger to flying birds. According to a 2014 study by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Smithsonian Institution, an estimated 365 million to 988 million birds are killed annually in building collisions. This figure doesn't include the birds that survive the initial impact but later die from their injuries. It’s a problem worth addressing as we continue to design modern structures. #BirdSafety #ArchitectureAndNature #BuildingDesign #WildlifeConservation

This tree lawn xeriscaping project is finally complete! Tree lawns are affectionately known as “hellstrips” because they go through hell. They are such a waste of water and are really hard to keep happy. This xeric initiative in my neighborhood is near and dear to my heart and should be on everyone’s agenda. With legislation CO SB 23-178, HOAs cannot deny you the ability to xeriscape your front yard, yet will likely still have some architectural guidelines to follow. This space however, technically belongs to the city and is subject to original development requirements set by municipalities on how much green space was required in new build neighborhoods. This area isn’t covered by the above statute, so before you tackle a hellstrip renovation, check with your HOA to see if they allow it. If not, you may try to ask for a variance from the city. I suspect municipalities will change their stance on this area in the future. 🐝 #colorado #xeriscaping #landscaping #designer #landscapedesigner #greeninitiative
