Lawyer | Disability Rights Advocate | Business Owner | First female with spinal cord injury in U.S. to own law firm | The Pushy Lawyer | Keynote Speaker
Perhaps I haven’t highlighted this enough, but it’s a fact that fills me with immense pride: Every member of my law firm, The Spinal Cord Injury Law Firm, either lives with a spinal cord injury/significant disability or is intimately connected to the spinal cord injury community. Why is this important? A spinal cord injury can turn a person’s world upside down in an instant, bringing a sense of isolation as they learn to navigate a new way to live life. At our firm, we understand this intimately because it’s a journey we’ve shared. Our approach is personal. When we meet clients in need, our empathy isn’t just professional; it’s deeply personal. We’ve been there, and we understand. Here’s why our hiring philosophy is crucial: **Empathy in Action**: Our team members don’t just review medical records; they resonate with each client’s experience, having lived through life-altering events themselves. **Enhancing Productivity**: By embracing teleworking, flexible hours, and accommodations, we’ve created a workspace where everyone is valued and productive. Our norms are centered around inclusivity. **Empowering Employment**: We firmly believe that individuals with spinal cord injuries not only can but should have fulfilling employment opportunities. Looking ahead to 2024, I am thrilled about the prospects of welcoming even more talented individuals with spinal cord injuries/disabilities to our firm. Together, we’re not just practicing law; we’re making a difference. Contact us today: 1-877-SCI- FIRM info@spinalcordinjurylawyers.com

Why am I passionate about healthcare? Because I want to make it easier for everyone to get the care they need. Here’s a personal story I experienced last Friday that highlights a common issue in healthcare: pre-authorizations. I was driving to another state to get a family member much-needed surgery when the hospital called to inform us that the surgery, scheduled for the next day, had been denied by the health insurance company. After more than an hour of calling the doctor, contacting the insurance company, waiting on hold, and finally getting the surgeon and the medical director to speak to each other, the surgery was approved and back on. However, this wasn’t without a lot of stress and frustration. My 15 years of healthcare experience were crucial in getting this resolved. So, what went wrong? The hospital delayed sending the authorization until four days before the surgery, even though it had been scheduled for months. The billing office, or possibly the doctor, coded it as non-emergent, which the insurance company interpreted as an elective procedure. When the office manager tried to schedule an appointment for the surgeon to speak with the medical director to overturn the decision, there was no response from the insurance company. I know the healthcare system can do better, but achieving this requires better systems that exchange data seamlessly and provide accurate, up-to-date information. That’s why I’m thrilled to work at CAQH and why I’m so passionate about our work connecting health plans, hospital systems, and providers with better data for better patient outcomes. Interested in joining us? Check out our careers page for a list of open positions. Please message me if you have any questions.
