Decarbonising the UK's fleets | Fleet Wise Trusted Expert 2024 | Save energy, costs, & reduce emissions | Focus Net Zero Founder |
Some literal thinking outside of the box for cost and carbon reductions. Howdens have taken the refurbishment (rather than replacement) approach to their 400 trailers. As the trailers come to the end of their life, instead of being replaced, they are being refurbished. Each trailer is taken apart, shotblasted and repainted and mechanicals refitted. This approach is cheaper than replacing and Scope 3 emissions are reduced as manufacturing a new trailer is far more carbon intensive. A new one is nearly 3.9 tonnes CO2 emissions per trailer. What's more, those items that cannot be reused are being recycled avoiding approximately 60 tonnes of landfill. I've seen this approach before at a refuse company I worked with, but that was with the full vehicle. This is something we are going to see a lot more of. __________________________________________________________________ Article from CV Show News, link in the comments #netzero #businesstransformation #projectmanagement #programmemanagement #electricvehicles #logistics #strategy #decarbonisation #sustainability #ceo #coo #cfo #esos #fleet #energymanagement #energysaving

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized Phase 3 emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles, including school buses, for model years 2027-2032! These standards aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 1 billion tons and provide $13 billion in annualized net benefits. Building on the Phase 2 program, Phase 3 maintains a flexible, technology-neutral approach, allowing manufacturers to choose emissions control technologies such as internal combustion engines, hybrids, and hydrogen fuel cells. The rule offers incentives and flexibility for technology development and infrastructure deployment. While praised for its environmental benefits, critics argue it poses challenges for small businesses and may require significant infrastructure upgrades.
