For example, adopting energy efficiency measures and reducing waste reduces production costs, while using renewable energies can minimize vulnerability to fossil fuel price fluctuations. Similarly, sustainable companies attract more investors, as investors are increasingly choosing companies committed to ESG criteria. In addition, sustainable companies attract the best talent and have a higher customer loyalty rate. 🗨️ Mr. Zibaoui also refers to the opportunity that Mediterranean countries have to promote a joint action plan to accelerate sustainable development in the region. Eco Baltia continues expansion in the Baltics

Honored to be the first presenter at the Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC) National OGSE Blueprint Forum, where I had the privilege of introducing the National OGSE Sustainability Framework Guide (NOS-FG) on November 5. What an incredible feeling to then witness the launch of NOS-FG by YB Rafizi, Mohd Yazid Jaafar, Datuk Yatimah Sarjiman, Pn Rashidah, and other industry leaders and representatives. This feels like more than just a milestone—it’s a pivotal step forward for Malaysia’s OGSE sector in taking ownership of our sustainability journey. The NOS-FG isn’t just a guide; it’s a survival toolkit, a pathway to growth, and a game-changer for a future where ESG is essential. This framework equips every player, from SMEs to industry giants, with practical steps, clear pathways, and real-world case studies to make sustainability achievable. I’m especially energized by how the NOS-FG is designed to support OGSE players at every stage, from newcomers to advanced practitioners. By 2025, access to financing and partnerships will be closely tied to robust ESG practices. By 2027, Scope 3 emissions reporting will be standard for many suppliers. NOS-FG is here not just to help us comply but to position us to thrive in this new landscape. Huge thanks to all the partners who made this possible—MGTC, MOGSC, PETRONAS, and the many dedicated teams across ministries and agencies. Today’s launch wasn’t about ticking boxes; it was about a shared commitment to drive meaningful change in our industry. Let’s be the ones who not only talk about sustainability but live it—leading Malaysia’s OGSE sector with purpose and resilience. If we get this right, we won’t just advance our industry; we’ll set an example for others, proving what’s possible when we unite for a sustainable future. “What has been your greatest achievement over the last couple of years?” someone asked me at the end of a presentation I gave to a group of investors a few months ago. Half-jokingly, I replied, “All the things we resisted doing and stopped doing.” As Paul Martin aptly put it in one of his posts on the notion of “trying everything” in the fight against climate change: “We need to triage our limited resources, money, and political goodwill and emotional bandwidth, applying them only to things that have passed a series of stage-gates of techno-economic evaluation.” On a more heartfelt note, what I am most proud of is ZEPA - The Zero Emission Port Alliance, an effort to bring together stakeholders across our industry’s value chain to make battery-electric container handling equipment the standard this decade, through de-bottlenecking, optimizing, and accelerating adoption thereby eliminating the “green premium”. Last week, we held ZEPA’s 3rd steering committee meeting with delegates from members including CATL, SANY, Rocsys, Kempower, SSA Marine, Port of Rotterdam and Patrick Terminals. A lot of great work has been done in a short period of time and we will be soon releasing ZEPA's first industry report. When I took this job three years ago, I didn’t realize it would take a coalition of this sort to achieve our goals. But one thing I have learned is that regardless of the sector, be it hard or "easy to abate", the required change is truly systemic. For us, technology is not even the toughest part. Vested interests and inertia against change are entrenched in existing processes, operating models, responsibilities, etc. all of which contribute to the green premium. Sometimes, it takes the combined power of a broad coaltion to overcome these obstacles. Great to see the Department of the Environment Climate and Communications getting fully behind the Sustainable Development Week which takes place from September 20 -29th this year! The Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs) have provided the first truly global and integrated sustainable development framework around which the international community can mobilise. Whether you are a small-to-medium business, educational institution, bank, farming cooperative, women’s group, trade union, multinational corporation, medical hospital, childcare facility , non- governmental organisation, research facility, political party, or any other actor, the SDGs are extremely relevant to you and to the future planning of your organisation! Governments and international institutions are increasingly aligning their funding streams with different priorities set out in the SDGs. It makes sense financially therefore for organisations and individuals to engage as fully as possible with the SDG framework. The preparatory/ consultation process which developed the SDGs was led by the United Nations almost 2 decades ago. This process was unprecedented in terms of how diverse actors - formal and informal - were included open , transparent and representative consultations. It is to be hoped that the successor franework to the SDGs (which expire in 2030) will replicate- and even improve- the processes that will generate a new global sustainable development framework . Perhaps those who attend official SDG events during the upcoming SDG Week could raise this issue and could ensure that politicians and their officials are aware of the need to launch the planning processes that will feed into the new global policy framework to replace the SDGs in 2030!! #SDGweek #SDGframework #SDGreplacementframework #ReplacingtheSDGs
