Wrapping-up my Board member position at the largest energy company in Denmark ⚡   Last month I finished my 2 years Board mandate at Ørsted. What a ride 🚀! I was elected by my colleagues following an epic campaign as one of 4 Ørsted employee Board members. We had the same role and function as our appointed Board colleagues - But with unique insights from our experience, role and network in the company.   It was like doing an MBA while working, complete with INSEAD Executive Board training wisdom and legal responsibilities (a mouthful yes 😵 but worth it!).   So what was it like to be in this room? Let's be frank, it was at first an overwhelming experience to enter a room filled with (former) execs with impressive background and decades of business achievements.   However, the Board and Management team welcomed us warmly with an inclusive mindset. That enabled us to fulfill our mission, and deliver impact ⚡   What did I learn from this unique experience? Many, many lessons - Here is my top 3: 1. The Board of Directors sets the directions, but does not manage day to day operations 🎯 -> Like a good leader, your role is not to micro-manage, but to empower your Management team to succeed. Easier said than done!   2. Deliberate diversity in decision-making is key ✨ -> Taking the right decision without a crystal ball to predict the future is not an easy task. But having an open dialogue, hearing different perspectives and "playing the devil's advocate" is crucial to avoid group thinking and decision bias.   3. Valuing employee feedback is strategic 📣 -> Being attuned to employees' insights can help identifying potential issues early and hear unfiltered perspectives on your business. It allows for proactive management while enhancing employees' engagement and satisfaction. Essential outcomes, as your people are your most important asset! An incredible leadership experience, and realisation of what my personal ambitions were: to come back to the room again, but as an executive director this time!
