Aviation Fun Fact: Sandblasting is the act of propelling very fine particles of an abrasive material at high velocity toward a surface in order to clean or etch it. Sandblasting is often used as a way to prepare a surface prior to painting. In PAL Express 🇵🇭✈️ we use Sand Blasting to prepare the wheel hubs for the NDT Inspection: liquid penetrant testing. An experienced mechanic would be able to check for cracks during sand blasting. That process offers a trifecta of benefits: improved functionality, enhanced durability, and cost-effectiveness. This video from Xiris Automation shows an example of a P-GTA cladding process in action performing multi-passes, multi-layers with clear view of the wire being properly added to the melt pool, very close to the arc's main column. The wide arc column promoted by the pulsed arc produces a wide bead which accelerates the surface coverage with just enough penetration for proper bounding with small dilution (ratio of participation of the base metal into the final deposit). Wire position, surface condition and bead positioning are elements that can be monitored by the operator during the process using the weld camera feed. Bead is a little narrow with low reinforcement. F- Travel speed is too slow. Weld bead is very wide with a lot of reinforcement. G-Travel speed is too fast. Weld bead is narrow and has poor melting at the toe of the bead.
