There are far too many businesses getting into the implementation of AI in their business processes without properly understanding it. If you carefully listen to their conversations, it seems like there is some urgency to declare their processes are now AI-enabled. While there are many AI libraries and services online that help you integrate AI into your system easily, the capital expenditure for AI integration has definitely decreased. However, many businesses often overlook the operational expenses. I am a firm believer that you cannot achieve high efficiency unless you figure out the right method of doing anything. This requires a lot of thought put into business processes, customers, system performance, and obviously the costs. Businesses need to put significant effort into experimentation, validating the data and outcomes from it, correlating that data with actual data, and, based on that, figuring out the correct method of operations. Only then should they come up with AI integration plans to automate these processes. Recently, a cloud kitchen service approached me to fix their AI-enabled platform that sends email notifications and offers to customers. Everything was done nicely, but after going live with the new marketing system, their sales started going down, and they could not figure out what was going wrong. So, we checked the raw data of the transactions and email engagement before and after going live with the AI integration. We asked one simple question: why would a person order a lunch or dinner tiffin at 2 AM? They could not understand why we were asking this question. Then we helped them realize that the system was recording the transactions in a particular time zone, but as the timestamps did not contain the time zone of the transactions, the AI engine may have considered a different time zone while running their algorithm. We retrained the AI engine, this time providing the time zone, and it started sending emails at the correct time. AI integrations always require close monitoring, where we have to keep checking the output, correlate it with the actual data, and validate whether the output makes sense.
