Why Appreciation is important for nurses? Nursing is a demanding profession that requires immense dedication and compassion. When nurses feel appreciated, it enhances their job satisfaction and can lead to better overall morale among nursing staff. Recognition and appreciation are powerful motivators. When we receive acknowledgement for our efforts, we feel motivated to continue providing high quality care and going above and beyond in our roles. If we make it a culture to appreciate nurses, it can positively impact patient care outcomes. When we feel valued, we are likely to engage fully in our work, communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and maintain high standard of care. Appreciation is not just a refinement, but a fundamental aspect of supporting nurses in their crucial role within healthcare. Nurses are at the mercy of the doctors The statement "nurses are slaves to the doctors" is one I have heard a lot. Growing up, I myself believed that nurses ran errands for doctors, especially the way that these Nigerian films depicted them. This actually discouraged me from wanting to become a nurse. From what I have learned in my studies, nurses and physicians are two distinct professions that must collaborate to improve patient outcomes. One of the things my lecturer emphasized on when I first started my nursing classes was that nurses are more concerned with patients' care than doctors are with patients' cures. It is important for us to understand that nursing is a profession guided by a professional body and that nursing practices are supported by evidence and scientific proof. While dispelling this misconception about nurses, we should not ignore the fact that cooperation between medical professionals is essential to improving patients' quality of life. Additionally, I am pleased to report that nursing profession has expanded beyond the bedside. There are various specialties you can explore, some of which are even beyond the hospital walls.
