Our first full paper on ballistocardiography has finally been published. This research is part of the preparation for the German Space Agency's (DLR) 'ARTIFACTS' mission, which focuses on health monitoring during parabolic flights. The software we are developing must be exceptionally reliable, as it will operate far above the ground. Therefore, we are implementing highly credible and straightforward methods and algorithms, even though I'm passionate about novel AI technologies. This paper compares different techniques for detecting heartbeats in seismocardiographic signals. It lays the foundation for the comprehensive heart monitoring system that will accompany astronauts on their journey to the stars. 𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛. Time dilation states that time slows down when one travels at high speeds. This can be explained by comparing two clocks in different states. “Moving” clocks and “stationary” clocks will have to show that time has elapsed differently for each clock. Time will pass at different rates when comparing a body at rest with a body in motion. The closer to the speed of light, the greater the effect of time dilation. Time dilation can also mean that time can stop for people moving at extremely high speeds. Because of the limited human comprehension, we cannot notice the effect of time dilation at normal speeds. Currently, the fastest speed humans can achieve is the speed nearing the speed of sound. An aero plane travelling at the speed nearing that of sound gives a time dilation of 1.0000000000005 thus 1 second for a passenger on the aero plane would pass as 1.0000000000005 seconds for an observer on earth. Time travels slowly for the traveler relative to the observer. If we consider an astronaut living in a fast low earth orbit moving around the earth every 90 minutes gives a time dilation of 1.0000000003 thus an astronaut in orbit for two years would have an increase in lifespan for about 20 milliseconds. It is interesting how some of the engineering of aircraft and especially avionics is counterintuitive to the user (pilot). There are many examples of design elements that don’t make sense to pilots.

🚴♂️🚂 Physics in Action: Bike Stunts on a Moving Train and Space Phenomena 🌌🛰️ Have you ever seen the jaw-dropping trick of a rider jumping ramps while on a moving train? The physics behind it is just as fascinating as the stunt itself! Here’s how it all ties together and even relates to what happens in #Space: 1. 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 The bike moves opposite to the train’s direction, but both are still moving in the same overall frame of reference. This is an example of relative motion—just like how astronauts on the ISS seem to float. In reality, the ISS is falling toward Earth but because it’s moving so fast (around 28,000 km/h!), it keeps missing Earth, creating that floating sensation we associate with zero gravity. 2. 𝐈𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦 The rider’s momentum and the train’s momentum combine in unique ways. The same principle applies in space. When astronauts push off a surface in the ISS, they keep floating due to inertia since there’s no air resistance to slow them down—much like how the rider keeps moving even after launching off the ramp. 3. 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐝 In the bike stunt, wind created by the train's speed can affect the jump. In space, however, there is no air—no resistance at all! This is why satellites, once in motion, can maintain their speed for extended periods without slowing down. 4. 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 The train and its ramps are earth-bound, but the ISS orbits Earth due to a delicate balance of centripetal force. The Earth’s gravity pulls it inward while its high speed keeps it in a constant free-fall, avoiding a crash. This is similar to how a rider maintains control in mid-air by balancing forces.
