Our Principal Lesley Aron Schmerzler AIA at the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2024 Tennessee Conference! The theme of this year’s conference was “Grounding.” Through this motif, the event aimed to explore both architecture’s physical relationship to material flows and resources within ecological systems, as well as architecture’s intangible relationship to history, memory, and lesser-acknowledged cultural contexts. Good to know the audience found our panel discussion insightful yesterday. I highlighted a few key points including: - Building safety is about putting people first not just about technical standards. - Technical competence on delivering health and safety for all / regulations compliance needs to be enhanced - All projects require an inclusion champion with a people focus. - Majority of buildings that fall under the new building safety regulations are already constructed with new buildings a much smaller proportion - safety and inclusive design in retrofit is paramount. - diverse technical teams with broad lived experience including in different geographies and project scales etc can bring innovative solutions to designing for safety and inclusive outcomes. #Buildingsafety #inclusivedesign #designforall #retrofit
