West Virginia is lucky to have its Class VI primacy application approved in less than a year (filed in May 2024) and it's now the fourth US state with such powers. It's good news for WV's Tri-State CCS and Capio Mountaineer Sequestration projects as the EPA can now transfer three pending Class VI well applications to the state regulator. After Louisiana obtained its Class VI primacy around the same time in 2024, it was expected that Texas would be next. However, it didn't happen and Texas is now in its third year of the application review. This is interesting, since there are currently 56 Class VI well applications (roughly one third of the total number) from 17 projects under review at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) compared to just three from West Virginia. Unless there are issues with the quality of Texas' primacy application, it would make sense for the federal agency to prioritize primacy application reviews based on the number of proposed projects, which could give a significant boost to project approvals at the state level. #unitedstates #carbonstorage #carboncapture #regulations #westvirginia #texas #classvi #ccs https://lnkd.in/euAa5bmC

Cerilon is pleased to announce that the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality – Division of Air Quality has issued a Permit to Construct for Cerilon GTL North Dakota. This milestone follows an extensive application review, solicitation of public comment and a public hearing held in Williston in November 2024. The State’s process thoroughly assessed the air quality aspects of the proposed facility and included independent modeling to determine compliance. “This permit is significant because it means our facility’s proposed design has met the State’s high standards regarding managing air quality in industrial development,” said Ron Opperman, CEO of Cerilon GTL. “We share these same high standards and will minimize the impacts on both the community and environment while creating a reliable, efficient source of energy for decades to come.” #FutureofEnergyNow #EnergyTransition #GTL
