The European Commission has presented today an important and comprehensive approach for addressing the shortages of medicines in the EU, particularly on most critical medicines and to be prepared for the winter season. As a solid foundation for a strong European Health Union and complementary to the EU Pharmaceutical reform (april 2023), the mixt of actions adopted by the Commission are ment to prevent and mitigate critical medicines shortage. Among these actions are a voluntary solidarity Mechanism for medicines, a Union list of critical medicines and establishing a Critical Medicines Alliance in 2024! Those initiatives and actions could set the scene for a Critical Medicines Act, on the model of other acts in various EU policy areas, an act which is very necessary and requested by the EU Council. https://lnkd.in/eSUC-BpX

It was a privilege to represent Romania and participate at the Informal meeting of Health ministers in Budapest, today! On the agenda important topics were discussed, in a constructive and friendly atmosphere, such as: 1) Joint actions on against cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) - leading cause of mortality in the European Union, accounting for around 1.7 million deaths each year; 2) Challenges, opportunities and best practices for the implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS); 3) Organ donation and transplantation - as a result of the EU Action Plan on Organ Donation and Transplantation 2009-2015, organ donation has increased by 21%, therefore a new Plan is needed. https://lnkd.in/dYUZiazp

At last a deal have been found on a important piece of EU Health legislation! Last night BE Presidency achieved a provisional agreement with regards the use, manage and exchange of electronic health data for the patients, so call EHDS Regulation. Congrats 👏 !
Thrilled to announce a provisional #EHDS deal! The Belgian team expertly managed a challenging discussion, achieving a fine equilibrium between public health and data privacy. Striking this balance between robust public health measures and stringent data privacy safeguards seemed like an insurmountable challenge in such a short timeframe. We were all "held" to the impossible, called upon to push beyond perceived limitations. Through perseverance and a collective commitment to what seemed "impossible," the Belgian team could make significant progress in the EHDS discussions. This #EHDS deal promotes a fair balance between individual freedoms and public health, a key principle for a just society and takes public responsibility for the greater good into account. We managed to establish responsible limitations, paving the way for a more responsive and innovative public health system across Europe. I’m confident that, through our transparent dialogue, member states will recognize the well-balanced approach embodied in the proposed #EHDS deal. As Slavoj Žižek reminds us, we should not be afraid of a certain 'bureaucracy' that regulates our freedoms. This regulatory framework will play a crucial role in safeguarding both public health and individual freedoms. This deal strikes this delicate balance, and I believe it sets a strong foundation for a future-proof public health system across Europe.
