Not only what he said is awful. It's also WRONG, from a commercial point of view. A commercial art gallery would never (never, never) bet on a died, unknown artist. A savy gallery will put his best effort on an artist which is, tipically, young and alive&kicking. And the reason is so simple, if you think: the gallerist will want to make sure that his long-term investment will produce profits on the long run, so the artist MUST have an expectation of not less than 10 or 20 years career ahead. The art business, like any other business, is ruled by a basic demand/offer balance. In other words, if the gallerist is good enough to create a strong, stable demand for an artist (and this might take years), he will not want to remain with no inventory to offer because the artist just died 😅 (of course, if the artist is on the highest end of the market then scarcity comes into play, and his premature death my boast prices exponentially. But, again: this happens on the highest end of the market only, with almost no exceptions.)

20 years ago, when I was searching for an art gallery to showcase my art, a gallerist told me that it's a good idea for an artist to commit suicide or die to increase the value of their art. Can you grasp the gravity of what he said? 💀☠️💀☠️💀 #HELMORT #Art #Thoughts #Personal

You're so right, Bansri Chavda ! That gallerist was so unwise, to say the least, with a charismatic and talented artist like Hel Mort. And - this stupid idea that a worthy artist is a dead artist must finish sooner or later 😂 Cases like that of Basquiat (the last in chronological order to be "sanctified" by history after his death. And he was a blue-chip disputed by galleries before that) there are no more. Nowadays, the artists who make dizzying numbers are those who were taken under the wings of a famous gallery as soon as they left art school, and who are anything but with their foot in the grave! 😂

Stefania Minutaglio This was so necessary to be addressed ! There is always a diffrent perspective to how you view not just art but life too ! The whole commercial angle Hel Mort may be the gallerist who told you this was not aware of ! Or else he would have built a fortune selling your Art ! 😁
