It was a long five weeks, but delighted that our R&D team took part and eventually won first place in the BDO UK LLP Summer Games! Last week we wrapped up BDO's annual summer games, an initiative we started in summer 2022 to support one another to focus positively on our physical and mental wellbeing. Now the stats are in and I am delighted to see that 1,600 of us across 350 teams participated, logging over 60,000 hours of wellbeing activities. Our 'work' environment will always be more than a place to do our ‘day job’ so it is wonderful to see the variety of ways in which we looked after ourselves and each other. 🏋♀️ An incredible 60,000 hours - or 2,496 days - of activities, burning over 23 million calories. The equivalent of charging 539 Teslas. 🚶♂️ One team walked 2.5m steps – the distance between Land’s End to John O’Groats 🚴♀️ Another team cycled more than 13,500km – that’s the equivalent of biking from our London to Edinburgh offices 23 times! 🎧 And as part of our mindful category, I thoroughly enjoyed devouring my favourite podcast, Philosophize This! A huge thank you and congratulations to everyone involved and a special mention to Karen Smith and the wider Wellbeing team whose dedication and commitment to our health is unparalleled.

Belfast… it’s been a blast! 💥 I just arrived home following a fantastic couple of days visiting Northern Ireland. From a successful client meeting in Cookstown, to a fascinating event run by BDO Northern Ireland on unlocking the potential of Private Equity, working alongside some of my colleagues in the wonderful Belfast office - I can certainly see the potential for R&D here. It was great to meet Lorraine Nelson, David Warnock FCA, Claire McGuigan, Tim Scott and Brian Murphy and put faces to names - thank you very much for your hospitality and I hope to see you all again soon!
