Fine for French cartel hiding toxics in food packaging 🆕 #ToxicFree4EU 👉 https://lnkd.in/eyYxixVm (11 January 2024) A cartel formed to conceal information on the presence of the endocrine disruptor bisphenol A (BPA) in food cans has been fined by the French competition authority. The cartel scheme started in 2010 and was intended to prevent manufacturers from competing on BPA-free food cans. It colluded to hide information on the presence of BPA in food cans before the French BPA ban entered into force in 2015, and to continue selling BPA cans after that date. This hampered consumers' choice of alternative products at a time when the substance was already considered dangerous to health, said the French authority. Three professional canning associations, one can manufacturers trade union and 11 companies, such as Unilever, Crown and Bonduelle, have been fined a total amount of 20 million euro. Two of the associations said that they will contest the decision in court. The EU banned BPA in baby bottles in 2011 and in till receipts in 2020. An EU ban on BPA in food contact materials is expected this quarter. BEUC - The European Consumer Organisation UFC-Que Choisir Sandra Jen

🚨 Important Health Update🚨 The FDA has officially banned the use of brominated vegetable oil (BVO) in food items, effective August 2, 2024. This decision follows extensive studies conducted in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health, revealing the potential for adverse health effects in humans. BVO, a chemical containing bromine (also found in fire retardants), has been used in small quantities in some citrus-flavored drinks to maintain flavor distribution. However, concerns over its safety have led to this decisive action. Notably, BVO has been banned in the UK, India, the EU, and Japan for years. Many beverage makers, including PepsiCo and Coca-Cola, have already phased out BVO from products like Gatorade and Fanta. Yet, some brands, such as Sun Drop by Keurig Dr Pepper, continue to use it. This move by the FDA is a significant step towards ensuring the safety of food and beverage products in the U.S. Let’s stay informed and prioritize our health by checking ingredient labels and making wise choices. #HealthNews #FDA #FoodSafety #BVO #BeverageIndustry #ConsumerSafety #PublicHealth

Sales Executive | Allwin Food Co.,Ltd (Food&Beverage Industries)| a strong communicator, and be able to handle rejection gracefully
The additive ban is halfway home in Illinois The Illinois Senate has passed SB2637 over to the House. It would ban certain food additives. The Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act would, if enacted by the House, ban foods containing entities from manufacturing, selling, delivering, distributing, holding, or offering for sale a food product for human consumption that contains brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben, or red dye 3. It passed with just one Senate floor amendment: It was: “Provides that, beginning January 1, 2027, a person or entity shall not manufacture (rather than manufacture, sell, deliver, distribute, hold, or offer for sale) a food product for human consumption that contains brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben, or red dye 3. Beginning January 1, 2028, prohibits the sale, distribution, holding, or offering of a food product that contains those substances for human consumption.” It was a conforming change. This bill targets additives like brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben, and red dye 3, enforcing strict regulations on their use. Similar actions in California and New York signal a growing trend toward food safety. Allwin Food Co., Ltd. aligns with these efforts, ensuring our instant beverage and premix products are free from these additives. Our commitment to consumer health and safety mirrors initiatives in California, emphasizing our dedication to delivering quality products. We prioritize consumer well-being while acknowledging economic factors, affirming our commitment to providing trusted, high-quality offerings. #bubblemilkteamanufacturer #bubblemilkteaingredientsupplier

In a decisive move aimed at curbing the consumption of sachet alcoholic drinks, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has initiated nationwide enforcement actions. Effective February 1, 2024, the ban covers importing, manufacturing, distributing, selling, and consuming alcoholic drinks in sachets, PET, and glass bottles of 200 ml and below. This action follows the expiration of the window period granted to manufacturers, concluding on January 31, 2024, for selling existing stock within the restricted category. To encourage responsible alcohol consumption and protect public health, NAFDAC is stepping up its enforcement actions, significantly changing the regulatory environment... #nafdac #sachetalcoholicdrinks #businessday https://lnkd.in/duJf-FJs

❌ FDA bans food additive found in sports drinks and sodas The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently announced that it will no longer allow the use of harmful additives in food products and packaged drinks. FDA released a statement, explaining brominated vegetable oil (BVO) - a type of vegetable oil - is used in the form of a food additive and helps keep citrus flavouring from floating to the top in beverages. BVO is a chemical ingredient containing bromine, which is found in fire retardants. FDA also informed that this ruling will go into effect from August 2, 2024. However, the packaged food companies will have "one year after that date to reformulate and relabel their products as well as deplete their BVO inventory. Over time, many beverage makers such as PepsiCo and Coca-Cola have replaced BVO with an alternative ingredient in their drinks such as Gatorade and Fanta. The FDA’s new regulation to not allow BVO as a food additive is a terrific positive in the right direction. #foodsafety #USFDA #FDA #ban #beverages #food #softdrinks #vegetableoil #oil #additive #harmful #safety #trending #awareness

Everyday Toxins Educator/Speaker/Food Justice Activist tailoring wellness programs for your org. Stopping Big Food from flooding our pantries w/ harmful additives thru the FDA-enabled GRAS loophole. NYC-certified M/WBE.
This is absolutely criminal. Over 10,000 food additives have entered the U.S. food supply via the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) provision of a 1958 amendment intended to strengthen the regulation of food at that time. The food industry reps balked and the FDA conceded its authority to the people it was supposed to regulate. Ninety-nine (99) percent of 10,000+ additives have not been studied. An estimated 1,000 of them are banned in other countries. WE ARE NOT POWERLESS! Support the Ensuring Safe and Toxic-Free Foods Act, legislation senators Cory Booker and Edward Markey have proposed to improve food safety and hold the FDA accountable. #ultraprocessedfoods #foodadditives #foodaddiction #chronicdisease #toxins #foodandbeverageindustry #fda
