There is so much we can learn from building projects and styles across countries. Take below project we completed in Spain. Together with SKREINSTUDIOS we were able to really optimise the passive, construction elements of the buildings such as thick, insulated walls. This massively increased the thermal mass of the building which keeps the building warm during winter and cool during summer. It enabled us to create a sustainable and comfortable villa with a very simple and sustainable climate installation. In the Netherlands we increasingly see the development of lightweight structures. Great for lowering the environmental footprint of the building, but it also creates a risk of lacking thermal mass and thereby heating up more quickly in summer and cooling down more quickly in winter. In those instances we need more energy to heat and cool the building. At Climetric Sustainable Design Strategies we apply parametric analysis to find the optimal combination of lightweight structures with passive and sustainable materials to increase thermal mass, for instance hempcrete, bio-based insulation or phase change materials. Do you have building solutions we should consider to increase thermal mass? Or do you want to know more about the solutions we consider in our portfolio? I absolutely loved that our clients were looking for optimised outdoor comfort and saw their courtyard as a true extension of their home. #livingoutside
🌟 Project Spotlight: Sustainable Villa in Cantabria, Spain 🌟 Number 2 in our series of recent international projects: We had the pleasure of collaborating with SKREINSTUDIOS to optimise the building performance of this newly built sustainable villa. And what an exciting project it was! It's a prime example of how the passive construction elements of a building (materials, insulation levels, glazing, shading strategies) can be optimised to enable a simple and sustainable climate installation: 🏡 Key features: - Triple Brick Cavity Walls with Insulation: Provided a thermally massive design for natural cooling in summer and excellent insulation in winter. - Deep Window Recesses: Ensured shading in summer while allowing passive solar gains in winter to naturally heat the house. - Shutters: Included to maintain comfort during the hot summer months. - Simple and Sustainable Climate Installation: Thanks to the excellent passive comfort performance, air conditioning units were avoided in favour of ceiling fans for additional summer comfort. - Outdoor Comfort Analysis: Assessed wind and solar performance to design a courtyard that is comfortable year-round. We are proud to have contributed to creating this highly sustainable and comfortable villa in Spain. Another successful collaboration with SKREINSTUDIOS! #SustainableDesign #GreenBuilding #PassiveHouse #BuildingPerformance #Climetric #SkreinStudios
