The Marchigiano footwear district, which has always been renowned for producing high-quality footwear, is facing very significant challenges. These challenges include rising production costs, loss of manufacturing flexibility and know-how, and especially the difficulty in finding specialized skills. Many experienced craftsmen have retired without being replaced by a new generation of highly skilled shoemakers. This has led to a shortage of the specialized skills needed to maintain high production standards. One idea to change this situation and revitalize the footwear industry in the Marche region could be to provide targeted educational programs in local high schools that offer shoemaking-specific directions. We could teach production, design and management skills specific to the footwear industry, as well as promote collaborations between local universities and footwear companies with concrete research projects or internship programs. The revival of the footwear industry in the Marche region will require a collective effort, but with the right focus and a long-term commitment to excellence, I think we can renew this historic industry and make it thrive again. The Story of Campus Activewear Ltd & The BIS Bet 👟 ✅ The journey of Campus Shoes has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride. From a promising start with an IPO price of 𝗥𝘀 𝟮𝟵𝟮 in June 2022, the stock soared to a high of around 𝗥𝘀 𝟲𝟬𝟬, only to tumble back down to around 𝗥𝘀 𝟮𝟱𝟬 recently. ➡ The last quarter of 2023 saw every major listed footwear company in India struggling with stagnant growth. Campus was no exception, with its revenue remaining flat. The macro environment has been weak for the past year and a half, and increased marketing spend has put pressure on margins. ➡ But let’s not forget, just a year ago, 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗮, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮, 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲. With a 17% market share, Campus is India’s number 1 sportswear and athleisure brand. ➡ In the December quarter, roughly half of the seven million pairs Campus sold were priced below Rs 1,500, and one-fifth were under Rs 1,000. This is where the silver lining appears. With the implementation of BIS certification from 1st Jan’24 which is mandatory for small scale manufacturers, there’s a possibility that sales will improve for Campus. The BIS certification, a third-party assurance of a product’s quality, reliability, and safety, could reduce imports from China and Vietnam, unbranded shoes, and knockoffs of big brands like Nike and Adidas. As the leader in this segment, Campus is well-positioned to leverage this change. Like anything, they are not without reasonable limitations. I believe that at smaller scales, there is opportunity to develop industry propelling, meaningful innovations that aren’t yet feasible for mass-accessibility. Introducing: Hidden Faces. We seek to propel. Hidden Faces is an entity that commits itself to developing functional, beneficial systems to all stakeholders. Our objectives are to improve experience, expand preferences, prolong use, and minimise impact. Hidden Faces’ first collection is AD.PERF [additive performance] AD.PERF.RUN provides a completely tailored running shoe for training and recovery use outside of competition.
