Inclusion isn’t something we learn from books or seminars , it’s something we live, something we experience. My 3-year-old daughter, Anaya, teaches me this every day without even realizing it. To her, the world is simple : everyone is welcome, everyone gets a turn, and no one is left out. She doesn’t hesitate to include kids who are different from her ,whether it’s in how they look, speak, or play. To Anaya, inclusion is natural, not a conscious effort. Watching her reminds me that the most profound lessons often come from the smallest voices. As we work toward a more inclusive world at Schneider Electric, it’s clear our children are already there - leading by example. Embracing diversity, equity, inclusion, representation, and an overall sense of belonging can significantly change perceptions of the world around you. Understanding experiences and viewpoints that don’t mimic your own builds empathy, which is one of the most valuable soft skills any professional can develop. Something unexpected happened when I asked a question. Here's what happened. I shared this story last year during Pride Month, and I think it is important to share it again. It had been an amazing week. The Solar Energy Industries Association Board of Directors was in town for our quarterly board meeting, and I had spent days with the most influential business leaders in the #solar and #storage industry, as well as Administration officials at the highest levels, and numerous members of US Congress. Something really cool happened after. I was finishing up a meeting with several industry CEOs. As I was saying goodbye to one, I noticed his lapel pin – an American flag intertwined with a rainbow flag. I commented on how much I liked it and he took it off, told me he bought lots of them just for this purpose, and handed it to me. I have been proudly wearing it and will continue to do so. Why do I share this story? I visited this CEO at his headquarters in Michigan. We had a thoughtful discussion of the solar supply chain, an engaging tour of manufacturing facilities, and then….quite unexpectedly….an honest and open discussion about being leaders and managing issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and an inclusive workplace. We share a passion for ensuring that our colleagues feel welcomed in every space they show up in, however they show up. What a gift that conversation was. To hear another’s experience and share my own. To identify an advocate for equity and inclusion. Honoring #pridemonth (and Pride 365 days) happens in so many different ways. And while we were very excited about our very first Diversity Day at our site in Bad Pyrmont to raise awareness among our employees about the importance of diversity just last week, we openly acknowledge that we still have areas to improve. But we are actively on the journey to make a change. Diverse voices play a critical role in shaping our narratives, especially within the media. When vulnerable groups are scapegoated, it becomes dangerously easy to blame them for society’s problems. This is why it’s essential to have true diversity at the decision-making table—not just for show, but to ensure these voices are genuinely heard and valued. True inclusion means fostering an environment where people feel comfortable contributing and where their perspectives are not dismissed due to bias. When we miss out on the richness of these perspectives, we lose the opportunity to tell more authentic and inclusive stories. It’s crucial to be intentional about centering voices that are often overlooked. For those with platforms, the key question is: When should I step back, step to the side, or step in? Recognizing when to elevate others' lived experiences is essential for creating a more inclusive and representative narrative. Workforce Diversity: Companies are actively recruiting a diverse workforce, ensuring representation across different genders, ethnicities, and backgrounds. 2. Equity Initiatives: The industry is working to ensure fair pay and career advancement opportunities for all employees, addressing historical disparities in the workforce. 3. Inclusive Culture: Many companies are fostering inclusive workplaces by providing DEI training, creating employee resource groups, and encouraging open dialogue about inclusion. 4. Leadership Commitment: Leadership teams are making DEI a priority by setting clear goals, tracking progress, and holding themselves accountable for creating an inclusive environment. 5. Community Engagement: The industry also supports diversity through community outreach and partnerships with organizations that advocate for underrepresented groups. By prioritizing these areas, the fuel and energy industry is building a more inclusive and equitable future.

*Embracing our Diversity* Yesterday on the central day of Pride Month, I had the opportunity to share and reflect on fundamental concepts such as intersectionality, power and privilege in the Lima office. It is important to mention that during the last four weeks, the Pride+ BRG has been able to deploy all the hard-planned virtual and hybrid events to continue consolidating inclusive and safe spaces, thus demonstrating our commitment to diversity here at #ThermoFisherScientific In the time I had in the morning we talked about: intersectionality, power and privilege, since as Marcelo Baudino says, "we cannot really get involved without first having recognized our privileges". And it is from our professional sphere, where we spend most of our time every day, where we can/should also be *agents of change* and take advantage of these spaces to learn and relearn. "Intersectionality" helps us realize that each human being is the sum of many factors that define our identity, a way of looking at our realities and how they affect each person differently. Talking about "privilege", being such a personal and broad topic, can be summarized as something "you haven't had to go through" rather than something you have gone through or had. The "Power/Privilege Wheel" (by Sylvia Duckworth's) helped me visualize and reflect on how our life experiences may differ from others. Talking about these topics, although uncomfortable at first, is crucial for our personal and professional evolution.
