Recently, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its latest report, predicting that U.S. battery energy storage capacity will set a new record for new capacity in 2024. By the end of 2024, U.S. battery energy storage capacity will nearly double, accounting for 10% of new U.S. power generation capacity. At 23% of capacity, it will become the second largest source of new power generation capacity, after solar energy. As of the end of 2023, the existing battery energy storage capacity in the United States is 15.5GW. If developers put the energy storage system into operation as planned, the battery energy storage capacity in the United States will increase by 14.3GW in 2024, reaching a total of more than 30GW. The scale will exceed the generation capacity of petroleum liquids, geothermal, wood and wood waste or landfill gas.

According to Wood Mackenzie's latest report, battery energy storage deployments in the United States are skyrocketing! 📈 Through the first quarter of 2024, the US saw a remarkable surge, with deployments reaching 8.7 GW, marking a staggering 90% year-on-year growth! In the fourth quarter of 2023 alone, the nation deployed 4.2 GW, with California and Texas leading the charge, accounting for 77% of the additions. 🌐🔋 Moreover, the US grid-scale storage market set new records, with installations reaching 3,983 MW/11,769 MWh in the same quarter, boasting an average duration of 2.95 hours. This surge reflects a significant shift towards short-duration energy storage to address peak electricity demands and the increasing prevalence of four-hour grid-scale batteries. 🔄💡 Excited to learn more about the future of energy storage in the US?
