Honored to have the opportunity to respond to the insightful Issues in Science and Technology article authored by President Susan Rundell Singer, The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Director Heidi Schweingruber, and NASEM Program Officer Kerry Brenner. Their article, "Boost Opportunities for Science Learning With Regional Alliances" espouses how "local collaborations among schools, higher education institutions, businesses, and community groups can achieve what top-down directives cannot." I am grateful for the opportunity to respond and share my perspective as the Executive Director of the STEM Funders Network. One of the original cornerstones of SFN was the belief in and bolstering of regional STEM alliances. Thus several members supported the launch of the STEM Learning Ecosystems in 2014. The commitment to the concept of regional alliances continues today as an intentional part of their investment strategies. Please read ISSUES article and the subsequent responses of several STEM education leaders.
