Did you know electric cooperatives use a collaborative approach to emergency planning and response? The mutual aid model allows co-ops to help each other out after major storms and disasters––it’s essentially neighbors helping neighbors. One of the seven cooperative principles is “Cooperation Among Cooperatives.” Mutual aid embodies this principle and is a vital part of how we operate and serve members of our local communities. Electric co-ops know we’re strongest when we work together.

"To assist in the ongoing planning efforts surrounding the Reconnect South Park initiative, the federal government awarded $1.6 million in RCP funds to Seattle in 2022. Thus far, state funds have been used to explore four possible options to reimagine the SR-99 corridor: mitigation of adverse impacts, building a tunnel over the corridor, converting the corridor to a boulevard, or removing it entirely. Federal dollars will help further refine each possibility, centering the conversation around connectivity, safety, and equity." Executive Vice President - Compliance & Security | NERC + FERC Compliance | Renewable Energy | Solar, Wind, Batteries, Hydro
It's hard to believe that we are almost to October! And with it the standard change to North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)'s EOP-012 Version 2 Implementation Date. This standard change will close some important reliability gaps on the grid - enhancing emergency preparedness and response strategies. It's exciting to watch how the industry is stepping up to close the gaps! Here's a quick 4 item checklist to make sure you've considered all the elements of this new standard version: 1️⃣ Enhanced Response Plans: Emphasizes the need for more detailed and actionable emergency response plans. 2️⃣ Coordination Requirements: Strengthens requirements for coordination with external entities and stakeholders. Do you have a contact list? Do you know how quickly you need to make notifications? 3️⃣ Testing and Drills: Increases the frequency and scope of testing and drills to ensure preparedness. When is the last time and next time you will be testing? When in doubt, or making changes, TEST! 4️⃣ Documentation and Record-Keeping: Requires more comprehensive documentation and record-keeping of emergency response activities. Record everything, everything! If you aren't ready for October 1st EOP-012 deadline, let the Radian Generation help you figure out how to get across the finish line - pumpkin latte in hand 🧡
