Mit großer Freude haben Bad Vilbels Bürgermeister Sebastian Wysocki, mein Kollege Frank Staud und ich heute unsere interaktive Ausstellung STADA EXPO vor der VILCO Bad Vilbel eröffnet. Sie lässt Besucher eintauchen in unsere Welt, beinhaltet spannende interaktive Elemente, darunter eine Virtual-Reality-Tour durch unsere Produktionsstätten, faszinierende Hologramme und informative Videos. Diese Ausstellung verkörpert STADAs Werte Agility, Integrity, Entrepreneurship und One STADA – sowie unser Engagement für die Gesundheit der Menschen. Ich bin überzeugt, dass die interaktiven Elemente und die umfassenden Informationen über unsere Arbeit und unsere Mitarbeitenden einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen werden. Mit sieben Biosimilars, die bereits auf dem Markt sind, leistet STADA einen erheblichen Beitrag, Zugang für Patienten zu lebensverändernden biologischen Therapien zu verbessern.   Dies ist jedoch nur unter nachhaltigen Marktbedingungen möglich. Jüngste Untersuchungen des renommierten Marktforschungsinstituts IQVIA zeigen, dass viele potenzielle Biosimilar-Präparate nicht entwickelt werden, weil sie keine Aussicht auf Rendite haben. Dieser fehlende Wettbewerb führt zu höheren Kosten im Gesundheitssystem und zu einem eingeschränkten Zugang zu dringend benötigten Produkten für Patienten.   Jetzt ist es an der Zeit zu handeln - zum Beispiel, indem sichergestellt wird, dass Ausschreibungen nicht ausschließlich auf dem Preis basieren, was zu einem ruinösen Kellertreppeneffekt führt, sondern z.B die Lieferfähigkeit oder Umweltfreundlichkeit in Betracht nimmt. Wichtig ist auch, dass es Spielraum im Markt für mehrere Anbieter gibt, die dann den Wettbewerb fördern.   Denn das erhöht die Marktkonzentration und gefährdet die Versorgungssicherheit. Hier gilt es, aus den Fehlern der Vergangenheit zu lernen, die zu Engpässen im Generikasektor geführt haben. Möglich ist dies z.B. durch Vermeidung der automatischen Substitution von biologischen Arzneimitteln auf Apothekenebene.

A successful start to the day: today we announced half-year sales of € 2.02 billion. With sales growth of 9%, STADA Group grew faster than the pharmaceutical market. Thanks to strategic growth initiatives, earnings adjusted for currency effects and special items (EBITDA) rose by 11% to € 463.5 million.   Our German and Western European business made a significant contribution to Group earnings. We continued our strong growth trajectory in a challenging macroeconomic environment. Our business model with its three-pillar strategy of Consumer Healthcare, Generics and Specialty Pharmaceuticals once again proved its worth: We are gaining market share in all three segments and are outperforming the market. I am very pleased about this, and it naturally gives us additional momentum for the second half of the year.   I am very proud of the team and would like to thank all our colleagues for their dedication, their extraordinary commitment, and their creativity in driving our business forward! We achieve these outstanding results thanks to our shared culture and values. Our culture of collaboration and working together is a prime example of how well our One STADA approach works.   Our mission “Caring for People's Health as Trusted Partner” drives us to do our best for patients every day. Germany stands out: The 10th STADA Health Report highlights that Germans experience the lowest level of loneliness (41 %) in Europe (52 %). While loneliness remains a significant issue across our neighbouring countries, Germany shows more resilience. Those who (occasionally) feel lonely in Germany cite health and mobility challenges, work pressures, and the loss of personal connections as the main reasons. Despite the low rates in Germany, we should make sure that we continue to reach out to each other and support each other in the future to prevent loneliness from increasing.    For more in-depth insights explore the STADA Health Report 2024. This week, I had the pleasure of speaking at the 30th Anniversary Annual Conference of Medicines for Europe in Dublin. Along with several of my fellow board members, our panel of senior industry leaders addressed key opportunities and challenges for the off-patent medicines sector under the theme of "Future of the Industry: Leading the Way" Over the 30 years since the formation of Medicines for Europe and its predecessor, the EGA, the off-patent industry has revolutionized patient access to medicines in Europe. Today, the industry supplies seven of every 10 medicines dispensed in Europe. Almost 6 billion patient days of experience with #biosimilars attest not only to our industry’s ability to develop and make high-quality, complex medicines, but also to provide patients with earlier access to biologic therapies. Patients stand at the centre of everything we do. For that reason, it was a pleasure to share during the discussion a few insights from the unique patient and consumer research that STADA conducts on an annual basis. Full results from the STADA Health Report 2024, which draws on detailed questionnaires completed by 46,000 Europeans in 23 countries, will be presented on 24 June in Rome. Aus meiner Sicht ziehen die Krankenkassen und pharmazeutische Hersteller von patentfreien Arzneimitteln, sei es verschreibungspflichtigen oder OTC-Medikamenten, am gleichen Strang: Qualitativ hochwertige Versorgung zu bezahlbaren Preisen, und wir liefern dadurch fuer die Menschen in diesem Land und unsere Gesellschaft ingesamt massiven Wert, der weit ueber den Preis hinausgeht. Deswegen freut es mich zu hoeren, dass das auch im Gesundheitsausschuss bekraeftigt wurde.

Strengthening EU Solidarity in Medicines Supply. This week, I had the pleasure to welcome Member of the European Parliament Sven Simon as well as Ursula Kirchner from the German Chemical Industry Association, VCI, and Christian Kurz from Initiative Gesundheitsindustrie Hessen, to our medicines manufacturing facility in Bad Vilbel, Germany. For more than 60 years, STADA Group has been making and supplying from this site a wide range of medicines, such as more than 2 billion tablets per year, plus capsules, liquids, ointments, creams and gels. With more than 300 employees, this facility not only provides many well-known consumer brands and essential medicines like blood-pressure products and cancer treatments to German pharmacies. It also exports to almost 70 countries. In light of this, it was valuable to discuss with MEP Simon how uncoordinated national stockpiling provisions, such as Germany’s obligation to hold six months of stock, are counter to the principle of European solidarity and security of supply. This requirement carries the risk of diverting essential medicines, such as life-saving antibiotics, from covering the needs of patients in other EU Member States. For antibiotics, Germany’s annual consumption, together with the six-month stockpile, would amount to one quarter of total antibiotics consumption of the whole of the EU. That is equivalent to annual consumption in Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia combined! Rather than counter-productive local measures, member states must work together to strengthen medicines security of supply by considering EU-level strategic reserves, reducing regulatory complexity, and ensuring pricing, reimbursement and procurement structures promote sustainable competition. #CaringforPeoplesHealth #Pharmaceuticals #MedicinesSupply #EuropeanUnion

Last year, with my dear friend and colleague Miguel Pagan, we were on a business trip together in Asia and we used a free moment to take a Thai boxing lesson with a professional instructor. While I certainly don’t look the part, I have been doing Thai boxing on and off for more than 10 years now, not to compete in the ring, but for endurance, coordination, strength, and simply because it is also fun. And it was a unique pleasure to train together with Miguel, who is a life-long practitioner of Karate and a true master. These sports require full focus while you practice, and while physically exhausting (as you can see, the training took its toll on us😉), it allows you to channel your energy and release it in a positive way, and mentally, this full focus is really relaxing. As the old saying goes: Healthy mind in a healthy body. I was honored to be in Brussels to join with policymakers, patient groups, pharmacy associations, @MedicinesforEurope colleagues and other stakeholders for the launch of the EU Critical Medicines Alliance. Particularly encouraging was the confirmation in President von der Leyen’s opening speech that the alliance also focuses on the provision of medicines for the EU from EU accession countries, in particular the Western Balkans, where with Hemofarm A.D. we have world-class medicines production in Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro.  As Europe’s fourth-largest provider of both generics and consumer healthcare medicines, with a growing presence in specialty pharmaceuticals, STADA Group provides a broad range of essential medicines to patients throughout Europe.
