🛎️ 🗣️ The Bell Foundation's Webinar on Developing Effective EAL Provision: The Journey to Quality was a brilliant, refreshing and motivating watch. 🗣️ 🛎️ My biggest takeaway was the need for a very clear approach to EAL provision and reform at International Schools, including a collaborative whole community commitment to : 📄 Policy 📄 What are the expectations? 👩🏫 Practice 👩🏫 What does the provision look like for a child, a teacher, a parent? How can we best up-skill staff to ensure we are maximising time for language acquisition? ♥️ Personal Belief ♥️ How do we change the heart and minds of all stakeholders to ensure buy in to the provision we are providing? How does your school create a language-friendly, inclusive environment ?
On Teacher’s Day, we celebrate those who dedicate their lives to nurturing minds and shaping futures. But while we honor our teachers, it’s important to remember that learning isn’t confined to the classroom or limited to a select few. Every person we meet, regardless of age, background, or experience, has something to teach us. The beauty of life lies in its diversity of perspectives. A child can remind us of curiosity and wonder. A colleague might inspire us with their resilience. Even those we disagree with teach us the art of patience and understanding. The world, in essence, is a classroom, and everyone we encounter plays the role of teacher. Learning from everyone means being open, listening actively, and embracing humility. It's about understanding that knowledge is boundless, and wisdom often comes from unexpected places. This Teacher’s Day, let's celebrate not only our educators but also the everyday teachers around us- the friends, family members, and even strangers who offer lessons in kindness, strength, and humanity. Here’s to lifelong learning and recognizing that the world’s greatest classroom has no walls and above all to all my teachers, aged 1 to 100 -Happy Teacher’s Day!
You make two solid points here, Michael, including (1) a Master’s degree itself is weakly correlated to #TeacherExcellence and (2) paying teachers more overall would widen and deepen the pool of talented candidates. If I were starting my physics teaching career today, rather than 30 years ago, I would be able to command a near 6-figure salary in select parts of the country and that figure will only increase in the near term. One key point to add here regards the leaders with whom teachers work. Teachers are attracted to schools with world-class leadership…instructionally, organizationally, developmentally, etc. Teachers leave education due to factors that #SchoolLeadership directly controls. If we increase #PrincipalExcellence we will do more to improve the teacher pipeline than exorbitant raises ever could. s4e.com
