Close-up detail of the famous diamond “Feuilles de groseilliers” brooch, crafted by Alfred Bapst in 1855 by commission for Empress Eugenie, Napoleon’s wife. This superb brooch is direct testimony to a long lost craft that is barely still found. Today we cant find such fine craftsmanship anymore.., present “time” is just too precious and costly, unfortunately not what we can say about the majority of modern jewels offerings. Description as per Christie’s 2014 “Geneva Magnificent Jewels” catalogue entry: “Designed as a cluster of three openwork currant leaves set throughout with old mine diamonds, centering upon a larger cushion-shaped-mine diamond and suspending three detachable articulated pampilles, each composed of graduated old mine diamond collets to the drop-shaped aiguillette terminals, mounted in silver and gold” Price realized: USD 2,400,000.- Photo credit: Christie’s ........................ #gemconcepts #christies #Feuillesdegroseilliers #bapst #antiquediamonds #craftsmanship #oldminecut #empresseugenie #frenchrevolution #antiquejewels #magnificentjewels

in India once there were several red diamonds in marquise shape and they are named as KISHTI. The royal families wear these red diamonds. Later on in 1960 the rich people tried to get this shape in synthetics. thousand of synthetic kishti floated in India from abroad and it became difficult to sort out which one is real red diamond and which one is synthetic red imitation. Thanks to manufacturer of imitations who rotted the Indian diamonds. thanks to diamond dealers of India who search for rough diamonds and do not search how to pick cut diamonds from synthetic one. thanks to introduction of daily emerging new polishing techniques introduced that makes the old diamond cutting more and more typical. As they work on coefficient of friction and we don't know anything about it and simple say that the piece gets red in contact of rotating skaife and hence not diamond without thinking a bit about CMP. (Chemical Mechanical Polishing).
