January #retailsales from the ONS appear great, but lack credibility - values +3.9%, volumes +3.4% MoM. Did we really buy and spend more in a non-descript dreary month than we did at #Xmas? Of course not, if you delve properly into the data. More credible is the return to positive volume growth in #grocery (+0.6%) and the steep -200bps decline in #online penetration to 24.8%. #knightfrank #kfretail #highstreet #retail #ecommerce #supermarkets #retailproperty #retailrealestate https://lnkd.in/gA3YmxDt

#retailsales: on the positive side, +0.4% volume growth in March (+0.2% in Q1). On the negative side, value growth of +3.4% in March isn't much of an Easter spike and +3.8% in Q1 points to uncertain #consumerdemand. #kfretail #highstreet #retail #online #ecommerce #retailproperty #retailrealestate. https://lnkd.in/eSfzKNyP

Retail sales experienced a huge slump in December following the better-than-expected performance in November. This was the fastest sales have dropped in nearly three years. The Office for National Statistics reported that consumers were doing Christmas shopping earlier, especially for food. It seems people were remaining frugal as economic realities weighed on the Christmas cheer. Nevertheless, we are in a much stabler environment than we were a year ago. Going into 2024, retailers will be looking to improve efficiencies. It's crucial for them to analyse customer buying data over the past year and identify where they can make small improvements, which will then help to inform their overall discount/ loyalty strategies. Implementing a Governance Risk and Compliance (#GRC) framework can also help mitigate risks through collaboration between departments and stakeholders. https://lnkd.in/eETnNGxR #Retail #Business #Technology

Retail sales activity surrounding the 2024 Easter season reveals so much more than holiday shopping activity. 🛒🛍️ “Current #retail purchase patterns are being led by the consumer,” says Circana’s Marshal Cohen. Are these lasting changes, or merely short-terms reactions to cumulative financial impacts and looming concerns? That is the big question facing marketers as they wrestle with the decision to make their own changes to chase the consumer, or prepare to adjust and ride the waves of change as they come. https://lnkd.in/diXAQwmK #retailtrends #consumerinsights #genmerch #cpg

Retail sales in September defied expectations, climbing 0.4% to $714.4 billion and up 1.7% year-over-year. It’s a sign that, even with some tightening in consumer wallets, shoppers are still willing to spend where they see value. Leading the pack were miscellaneous stores, up 4% from August and 7.9% YoY, while general merchandise stores saw a solid 0.5% monthly boost. Clothing stores also bounced back with a 1.5% jump, and online sales kept up the momentum, growing 0.4% for the month and 7.1% over last year. As we gear up for the holiday season, it's clear that shoppers are still in the game—let's see if this spending trend holds strong!
