"I joined the construction industry because of my love of English" was lightbulb moment that started our plans for a Teacher Encounter with Stepnell. This morning we invited 16 English teachers to Stepnell Construction to learn how to link their English curriculum to the world of work, ultimately inspiring students and ingniting their learning. Teachers were given time to develop a resources, combining their professional knowledge of the curriculum with the expert talent and expertise of employees from the company, from bid writers to site managers and marketing managers. Feedback has been amazing. 100% found it extremely useful. One teacher admitted she wasn't entirely sure why she was coming because she couldn't see the link between English and construction, but by mid morning "it all made total sense!”. Another said the morning helped "destigmatise the construction industry, highlighting the need for English throughout." Huge thanks to Sue Woollett for hosting.
