Once I started directing, it was always a goal of mine to work with Laurie. So in my mind it's he goes back a lot longer than we probably the year that we actually met. But the first project that we did together was a David Mamet play called November. And I hadn't worked in New York very much at all. So it was all new to me. And then we really. Cut it off. And then I think this is our #7 you know, I get challenged by Joe in a way that I always learn. I always learn something in the rehearsal room. There are lines in this play that only, Lorie, they have the Metcalf spin on it, like on the page. You wouldn't necessarily think that that's how one might say that line or interpret that line. But so she's always comes at it from a very interesting, idiosyncratic angle. I like to spin a line. Yeah, yeah. I think some sometimes that comes down to really just like throwing away the punctuation. Yeah. And it makes you look at it in a different way. Yeah, it's. But it's always fun to find one or two of those that are unexpected. Initially, we were looking for plays that we were both interested in, kind of dangerous plays and plays that really kind of exploited what Laurie does best. And I remember they came to us and said, what if we commissioned something? And Sam was one of the people that was on the table, and we both really loved his work, so we just trusted him. He trusted us when he delivered a script three months later. And it really hasn't changed all that much. You know, his plays are really theatrical, but I don't know how he does it. Even having even all this time that we've spent with him, I actually don't understand how he does it. It's a kind of particular quiet genius that he has. It's a show. That I love performing for an audience because there's a little bit of everything, the humor, but there's heart, there's tension, there's ugliness, combativeness, so. You get your money's worth.
