Pride Month is a time to uplift, celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community. It honors the identity, rights and inclusion of all people, no matter their background. At STERIS, we believe in a diverse and inclusive workforce, and we foster and support that belief through Employee Resource and Affinity Groups which are designed to create an open forum for Associates who share similar passions to meet and support one another in building a unifying sense of belonging. The journey towards LGBTQ+ justice, equality, and inclusion, has never been easy. We’ve faced countless challenges, naysayers, and setbacks. But, with the support of our allies, we’ve persevered. Over the last two decades, we’ve achieved what once seemed impossible: workplace protections, marriage equality, greater representation across every major platform, and a shift in hearts and minds towards greater acceptance and inclusion of our community. As we continue through June, our feeds are filled with rainbow logos and "Love Is Love" messages. But many in the LGBTQ+ community are questioning the authenticity of this support. "Rainbow capitalism" and "pinkwashing" often overshadow genuine efforts for equality. The real question is: How can brands authentically support LGBTQ+ communities? Consumers today want actions, not just symbols.
