The McColl Center has received a $10,000 grant to support its New Professionals High School Internship, sponsored by Bank of America. This incredible program provides rising high school juniors and seniors with a five-week, paid summer internship, empowering them to explore art-related careers through hands-on learning and mentorship.

McColl Center is excited to announce a $10K grant from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Foundation, a regional affiliate of Foundation For The Carolinas. This grant will support McColl Center’s New Professionals High School Internship, a program sponsored by Bank of America. This 5-week, paid summer internship enables rising high school juniors and seniors to learn about art-related careers in a hands-on environment working. We are grateful for this funding for youth empowerment through education and exposure.   

Recently, Richard Bland College of William & Mary was the recipient of a SCHEV Impact Grant, which totals more than $3.9 million. This initiative will create more paid internship and work-based learning opportunities for Virginia students to bolster their career readiness and academic growth. Internships can provide once in a lifetime opportunities. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is promoting the chance to experience working in government. Check out this new piece, hot off the press, from Makayla Seidle-Beach, a student at SUNY Brockport interning this summer with the Eurasia Center. The first week of summer vacation for my kids is here. We're gearing up for summer camps and activities. This time of year takes me back to my college internship, where I ran sports camps for the local YMCA. We started and ended each day by reviewing the core values: Caring Respect Honesty Responsibility. We would talk about these as we opened the day, and at the end of the day, we would ask if anyone saw any of the campers displaying these behaviors. Those who did were rewarded with a little prize and a round of applause. If organizations reward and recognize core values, they will continue to permeate through the organization. Think about what behaviors are being rewarded and emulated and which ones you want to be magnified.

Exciting things are happening at Roanoke College! With support from a SCHEV Vision Grant, we’re enhancing the focus on internships and work-based learning (WBL) to better prepare students for career success. Through this initiative, Maroons Forward: Building Career Through Experience, we’ll expand WBL opportunities, align them with NACE competencies, and develop systems to track outcomes and strengthen employer partnerships. This project reflects Roanoke’s commitment to helping students find purpose through experiential learning and meeting Virginia’s workforce needs. Proud to see this work moving forward with the dedication of our task force and college leaders!
