Hint: you haven't spoken to them for a while or at all. -What do you need to read today that will transform your thoughts? Hint: it will challenge your thinking. In my last post, I was asking my fellow aero-geeks why I could spin great to the right but not to the left. So I had a theory - flying solo there is aileron required to hold the aircraft level, because your weight is not in the center. With two people it is well trimmed. This aileron increases the effective angle of attack on the side where you are sitting - that aileron is down, and the opposite aileron is up. So the wing on the side you sit tends to stall first. So my theory is I could spin to the left if I sat on the left. Theories need to be tested, and that is what this video is about. For the non-pilots - what is a spin? A spin is when you get slow enough for the wings to stop flying, but one stops flying before the other. That tends to initially flip the aircraft over, and then it descends like a maple seed. I think it's time we start defining fundamental principles in Flight Levels Land. In my way of thinking, these principles form the foundation of everything we do and are always applicable. On Decision Making Post factum analysis of a decision often finds errors in judgment. The question is, was the decision maker wrong? From the true story of an emergency landing of a plane in the Hudson River, we may find an interesting answer to the above question. Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger is considered a hero because he made the courageous decision to land his plane in the Hudson River to save hundreds of passengers. The problem is post-factum analysis done on the flight simulator by couple of well-experienced pilots, concluded that the decision was reckless and unnecessary. So, which one is right? There is a fundamental difference between decisions in a simulator and real life. Pilots in flight simulators know that their decisions will have no impact, so they tend to be more relaxed, whereas Captain Sully's decision was made under the pressure of risking the lives of his passengers and had to be made in a very limited time. In just a matter of minutes, he had to decide whether to continue the flight to the nearest airport or make an emergency landing. What can we learn from this incident? Whenever you have to make a decision, just do it. Don't hesitate, don't overanalyze, don't wait until it's too late Never wait for the most perfect decision, because the decision that is taken logically, in very limited conditions and time is actually the most perfect decision. #fahrieHaris
