In this video, I explore the topic of "Exploring Ageism and Discrimination." Ageism, a form of prejudice or discrimination based on age, affects individuals of all ages but is particularly pervasive against older adults. Through insightful research, personal anecdotes, and professional opinions, I delve into how societal attitudes and stereotypes contribute to ageism, manifesting in workplace discrimination, healthcare biases, and social exclusion. By shedding light on these issues, the video aims to foster a more inclusive and respectful environment for people of all ages. https://lnkd.in/gHvAwAWs

Some really promising and long overdue measures outlined in today's Kings Speech. Maybe won't go far enough for some people but still feels like a step in the right direction. ➡ Several bills to improve young people's lives including more focus on young people's mental health. ➡ More focus on preventative services. ➡ Mental Health to be given the same focus and attention as Physical Health. ➡ Modernisation of the Mental Health Act - much needed. ➡ Banning abusive conversion therapy practices ➡ Equality, Race and Disability Bill will mean that employers with more than 250 people will report their ethnicity and disability pay gaps as well as gender. Also extends the right to claim for equal pay on the basis of race and disability as well as gender.

Did you know, age discrimination is the most widespread form of discrimination in the UK? Despite being prohibited under the Equality Act 2010, ageism remains embedded in all areas of life, causing a great deal of damage to individuals and wider society. This year, we want people to join the Age Without Limits movement, challenging ageism and taking action in their communities and workplaces to make them more age-friendly. Join the movement: AgeWithoutLimits.org #AreYouAgeist #AgeWithoutLimits #ageism

Age Discrimination Commissioner Robert Fitzgerald AM has today called on the Federal Government to formally endorse the creation of a UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons, in what he said remains a missing piece in the international human rights framework. There is currently no binding international instrument dedicated to the rights of older persons, like there is for race, sex, children, and disability. This is despite the growing trend of ageing populations, both globally and in Australia. Commissioner Fitzgerald: “Australians are getting older, and whether it be in our workplaces, health, social or aged care sectors, the challenges facing our ageing population are increasing - with each issue exacerbated by soaring economic pressures. "A Convention will strengthen the voices of older people and clearly recognise and affirm human rights as they apply in older age and to older persons in all their diversity." Director of Prohas Health and Safety Consultancy supporting businesses with their safety agenda by offering a wide range of services & ongoing support.
Discrimination is a pervasive issue that affects individuals of all ages, races, genders, and sexual orientations. It's about time we challenge the stereotypes and prejudices that lead to discrimination and work towards creating an inclusive world where everyone can live freely and authentically. We must acknowledge that discrimination is not limited to individual actions but is perpetuated by systemic issues that prevent marginalised individuals from achieving equal status and opportunity. Therefore, we should strive to remove the barriers that prevent equality and promote diversity in all aspects of society.

Today is World Social Justice Day 2024, spotlighting the need for fundamental rights, employment opportunities, and social protections globally. People with disabilities experience high rates of un- and under-employment due to systemic barriers. Those barriers to unemployment are intensified for people with disabilities who have arrest or incarceration histories. Thousands of collateral consequences legally restrict employment, education, and other opportunities that lead to prosperity. It is important that we support policies that end both discrimination related to conviction history and disability status.
