A Shoutout to All Interns Hustling Behind the Scenes !! Building a company across time zones isn’t easy. Zillion is based in Toronto, with teams spread across London,Malaysia & India. so sometimes we have meetings at odd hours to make it work. What humbles me the most is when They consistently show up, ready to dive into deep discussions, tackle complex problems, and find solutions that truly make a difference. It’s inspiring to see how much they thrive on these opportunities for growth. And when clients take a moment to appreciate their efforts. For these young interns, that Validation of work is a proof that all the hard work, the early mornings, and the long hours are paying off. It reminds me of my own intern days when I was 17. I was lost, unsure, and yes, I complained about the long hours. But looking back, those experiences shaped me. They taught me discipline, problem-solving, and resilience. With a little guidance, you'll be on your way to success and get a PPO comfortably. As someone who's been in the industry for nearly 5 years and has mentored numerous new joiners in Microsoft, I've picked up a few tips along the way that I'm excited to share with you all. 🌟 1️⃣ 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬: Clear communication is key. Establish regular check-ins with your mentors and managers to align on goals and expectations. It shows initiative and would help you have clear deliverables in mind. 💼 2️⃣ 𝐃𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩: Embrace the fact that no one knows everything, especially in the dynamic world of software engineering. While it's okay to ask for assistance when you're stuck, make it a habit to explore online resources and documentation first. Not only will this hone your problem-solving skills, but it'll also demonstrate your commitment to growth and self-reliance. 🔍 3️⃣ 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞: Imposter syndrome is real, especially as a new member of the team. But remember, you were chosen for a reason. Don't hesitate to share your ideas, ask questions, and actively participate in team discussions. Your unique perspective and insights are valuable contributions to the collective success of the team. 💡 4️⃣ 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞: There will be times when you think you already know what the other person is saying. I would still recommend you listen to their ideas. More often than not, you will realize you learnt something new from it. This is one habit that I am still actively working on. 🎧 5️⃣ 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: The foundation of your journey lies in the relationships you cultivate. Take the initiative to introduce yourself to your colleagues, engage in small talk, and learn about their roles and experiences. These connections will not only make your work environment more enjoyable but also play a key role in your PPO. 🤝 🌟 Remember, your first day is just the beginning of an incredible journey filled with opportunities for growth and development. Inspired by this, I'd like to share a few tips for those trying to secure their first internship: ✅Remain Active on Campus: Continuously engage with your professors and classmates. They are the first step in growing your immediate network. Learn from your peers within your major; their insights are priceless. ✅Attend Resume Drives: These events are golden opportunities to meet professionals and recruiters who can play a pivotal role in your career. They may even be your interviewer 😀 but regardless they are helping open the door to new possibilities. ✅Apply for Programs and Research Opportunities: Go beyond your standard coursework. Remember that continuous learning and growth are key in any field, whether it's attending hackathons, pitch competitions, or enrolling in training programs. ✅Take on Leadership Roles: Don't shy away from leadership positions in student organizations.
