In March of this year, LaGuardia Community College unveiled plans for the Cohen Career Collective, a state-of-the-art workforce training center that will ensure economic mobility for New Yorkers while providing skilled workers for local employers. The Cohen Career Collective is made possible by a historic gift from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, led by Foundation President and New York Mets owner Alex Cohen. As highlighted by Inside Philanthropy, the award magnifies the critical role of community colleges in providing opportunities for individuals that may face barriers to higher education elsewhere, but it also, “represents a monumental shift in philanthropic focus and how significant charitable contributions are allocated.” Read the entire article here: https://bit.ly/3ycliok #CohenGive

In our ongoing series about philanthropy terms, let's talk about "public-private partnerships." 🤝 Public-private partnerships are when a government agency (the “public”) and a private company team up to fund, build, and/or run projects together. A recent and powerful example is the America the Beautiful Challenge, a grant program funding conservation initiatives. NAP was able to partner with several organizations to pool money and resources from the federal government and private philanthropy so Tribes could access historic levels of funding. Thanks to public-private partnerships, ground-breaking projects can be funded and executed when they otherwise wouldn’t have. #Philanthropy #NativePhilanthropy #PublicPrivatePartnership #Funding #Nonprofit #NativeNonprofit #NativeLed #NativeGiving #NativeAmerican #TribalSovereignty

Additionally, experts have pointed out that modern philanthropy has several advantages. We're also seeing new and emerging models take shape, so there is a great deal of recovery potential. For those looking to connect with Gen. Z, some research looks at their giving habits and attitudes, and also what nonprofits think Gen. Z wants. There are a few interesting disconnects, like: They would love a real [paper, sent through the mail] thank you note; whereas most fundraisers presume Gen. Z wouldn't want real mail. Check out more insights in Emily's story.
Although members of #GenZ are still far from their prime giving years, it’s never too soon for #fundraisers to learn how to attract their support. A new report from Blackbaud Institute offers some insights into how this generation — born from 1997 to 2005 — likes to give and corrects some common misconceptions about their philanthropic style.
