July is Disability Pride Month The word "Difficulty" is a subjective word, especially in the disability community. We have such a diverse community that people could have the same disability but, the way they can navigate the world can be VASTLY different. This results in the development in other skills like problem solving, just to name am example. One of my favorite quotes is "Necessity is the motherhood of invention" - Plato No more is this quote apparent than in the disability community. One could say, necessity brings out the individual genius in our community. Embrace your genius. #disability #disabilityawareness #disabilityemployment #disabilitycommunity #disabilityempowerment #leadership #disabilityinclusion #problemsolvers #disabilitypride #availableforwork

In case you wanted to attend this author talk but were unable to do so, here's the recording of it. There is usually more than one way to look at something. Disability is one such example. This author talk, hosted by the CASY Sparks online community at Yale University, delves into how my outlook on my own disability as a late-identified autistic changed rather dramatically as a result of listening to others in the disability community. Life throws curveballs, but the human spirit is incredibly resilient. This truth has become deeply ingrained in me, both through my son's journey and witnessing countless others navigate challenges in the work that we do at Your Life Disability Support (YLDS). One of the most powerful lessons I've learned is the impact of language. The word "disability" often carries limitations, a label that doesn't reflect the incredible strength and determination I see every day. These individuals overcome incredible obstacles. Demonstrating an inspiring spirit of resilience. Their stories are a constant source of inspiration. My experience has fueled a mission to empower others. Every individual, regardless of their challenges, deserves the opportunity to live a fulfilling life. That's why I'm passionate about advocating for people of determination. Witnessing their strength inspires me to help break down the negative connotations language can have on their abilities. Our mission at YLDS is to empower, not define. We want to educate individuals about their vast potential and all they can achieve. ❓Have you ever considered how language can impact someone's perception of themselves or their abilities? ❓What are some ways we can shift the conversation around disability to focus on strengths and potential? Share your ideas! 👇 #DisabilityInclusion #PeopleOfDetermination #NDIS #Disabilities #Diversityandinclusion #Empowerment

The phone scrolling..... I just can't with that! Here are a few other important things that great disability staff DON'T do: 🚫 Never making assumptions about a person's capabilities or limitations based on their disability. Treat each individual as unique and respect their autonomy in determining what they can and can not do. 🚫 Don't be talking over or talking for people with a disability. Every voice deserves to be heard, so let's actively listen and support people in conversations, decisions, and activities. 🚫 Boundaries are everything! People with a disability deserve the same level of privacy and respect as anyone else. Always seek consent before doing or assisting, and be mindful of personal boundaries. Have you got more big DON'TS to add to the list? We would love to learn more. Mypower Foundations are committed to providing safe, respectful, and personalised support for individuals with disabilities. Our compassionate team is dedicated to empowering you to live the life you want! #disabilitysupportworker #pwd #ndisworkers #ndis #supportsmallbusiness #supportworkers #disability #advocacy #supportingpeople #communityleader #westernsydney #bluemountains

Did you know that July is Disability Pride Month? And why does it matter? We might think about disability solely as a medical diagnosis, but many experience disability as an important part of their identity. It shapes their culture, beliefs, relationships, perspectives, place in their communities and even their politics. Disability is not an anomaly of normalcy. It is part of the human experience that should be celebrated with pride! ➡️ What does disability mean to you? ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #ErinoakKids #Disability #DisabilityPride #DisabilityPrideMonth #ChildrenWithDisabilities #YouthWithDisabilities #Disabilities #DisabilityRights #Inclusion #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityInclusion
