Looking forward to DeviceTalks Boston Wed/Thu this week, should be a great conference. Hit me up if you're attending, would love to connect. There are many interesting themes throughout the program, but some highlights: 1) Surgical Robotics has to be #1 -- some huge players will be speaking about their products, including Intuitive (perhaps you've heard news of the D5 recently?), Medtronic, Stryker, CMR Surgical, Distalmotion, Quantum Surgical ... you get the idea. 2) Boston Scientific will be talking about #PFA and the future of ablation tech. Q1 earnings showed a 70% growth in the strategic's electrophysiology business (not bad!) and 18.5% growth in the Watchman (which obviously is also part of the treatment paradigm for #AFib). What's next? 3) Super-duper pumped for the Dassault Systèmes panel with Steve Levine, Afrah Shafquat, and Ellen Roche and more discussing #insilico methods and In Silico Clinical Trials. I'm a believer that these tools are the biggest opportunity we have in life science to supercharge development, so I can't wait to hear what they discuss. 4) Nina Goodheart will be discussing how Medtronic is working to bring #structuralheart interventions to underserved communities, including women and ethnic minorities. Who wants to bet there is a discussion of the SMART trial results made public earlier this month at the American College of Cardiology annual meeting? That trial was targeted to addressing #TAVR use in smaller annuli, most directly applicable to women. 5) Two panels on sensors / connected implants, including one with Canary Medical Inc.'s Bill Hunter -- should be great to hear where they see smart implant's going. In my opinion #medtech is leaving tremendous opportunity untapped if we don't do more to integrate sensor data into our understanding of disease. Obvious hurdles to implementation (inertia being the primary one, imho), but why are we not giving clinicians and patients as much information as we can? So yeah, should be a great show! Thanks, as always, to the DeviceTalks gurus Tom Salemi, Chris Newmarker, and Kayleen Brown (and more, no doubt) for putting together a great agenda. See you there!
